Good day

Im wondering if a fox urine, often bought for deer hunting, will attract foxes too or drive them away?

Any ideas?

I've experimented with it quite a bit. I have a lot of foxes around my property.  They will come and check it out, generally sitting out at the edge of where it is applied. They are cautious and do not readily show themselves.  I've found them following my trail when I apply it to pads on the bottoms of my boots.  It doesn't seem to attract them, per se, but if they encounter it, they will "inspect".  I have a truce with the foxes on my property, now.  If they don't bother anything (they come in and eat deer chow with the deer... sometimes the deer chase them off), I don't bother them.  They don't run off when I or my wife walk out the door anymore.  So far, it is a peaceful coexistence.

When trapping, a "food lure" is used to draw the fox to the trap, fox urine is used mostly as a cover scent just as it's used when hunting.

Jackal, their cousins here in Africa, are as sly as anything. Usually you catch them out only once, after that forget it.

Just like any other canine they'll p*ss where others do.  When placed in the right spot at fox trap you should get the rear leg they don't lift.  BUT,I've used fox urine for yrs as a cover scent when deer hunting and never seen one come in.

I'm told that coyotes will follow a trail of fox pee (to run off the competition as they are dominant) and that is one way to lure a coyote into a trap by setting multiple traps in a pattern and a trail of fox pee through the middle.  Once the first trap gets a leg as they move around likely they step in one or more other traps.  I have not tried this as yet but the guy who told me this knew what he was doing.

I'm also told that turkeys can be trapped by using an old coil spring mattress support from a bed and placing corn under it causing their feet to become entangled in the wire.

Another trukey trap using a 55 gal barrel you place corn around and on top of the solid bottom of the barrel with the bottom up and after letting them get used to it you go out and turn the barrel over open end up and the bird that flies to the top and expects to eat corn off the top lands in the barrel and can not get out.

Now you guys are talking my language Cool

Yes, fox urine will definitely attract fox.  I have caught MANY fox and coyotes using nothing but urine.  Many lures have more drawing power and work better, but it will work alone.  Actually using urine alone will sometimes be just what is needed to catch that trap shy fox or coyote.

Never caught a fox by the rear leg, most of the time they lead with their left front as they're lowering their chest and head to steal the bait from the hole.

I've read about all the methods you've mentioned, but for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would "gang set" traps for a coyote. I've caught several and held them by the corner of their toes when the trap was slow to spring. If a good steel trap manages to get a hold on anything, it ain't going no where unless you don't run your traps as you should and it (fox) chews its own leg off.

One thing about trapping, it ain't for the faint of heart.

Its been a long time since I did any trapping and then it was mostly box traps that catch them uninjured.  Having some trapping skills is a good survival tool though.
