ILya, that correct as it was called a short action scope. Maybe I'll shoot an email off to one of the Bushy CS reps instead of trying to guess why the price increase took place. The entire line of Elites got the Argon gas treatment and better lense coatings, but if you look at the previously named 4200's, now just called the Elite, such as my favorite, the 2.5-10x40, the price is is basically unchanged. Even if they made that particular 3-10x40 with a true 1 pc tube, it should have caused that much of a price increase.

I shot an email to my Bushy contactnwith those question (4200 glass, 10,000 recoil testing etc) because as I stated earlier, that scope to me is perfect for short action bolt guns. I wonder if Bushnell would upgrade the reticle to their 3-2-1 for a fee. . Anywho, I appreciate nyour help ILya and hope all is well with you and yours.

This is the common advertisement for the "new" Elite series, Roy:
"Engineered for the most rugged field conditions, the Bushnell Elite Rifle Scope features Bushnell's exclusive Rainguard HD lens coating that prevents external fogging and moisture from ruining your shot. The fully multi-coated lenses now feature Bushnell's new Ultra Wide Band coating which boosts brightness at dawn and dusk. Other features include 95% light transmission, argon gas purging and resettable windage and elevation adjustments."
I highlighted the major differences between the "new" Elite series and the 3200/4200 predecessors. The 4200 pricing that you're seeing with the Elite scope that you are interested in has all of the features of both the 3200 AND the 4200 of the past and then some, to boot. Essentially you would be paying the gap to have better glass than the 3200 variant of that scope had to offer (3200s offer 90% light transmission, vice the 95% available on ALL of their "new" scopes) along side the new features on the Elite series that that 4200 didn't necessarily have (such as the Ultra Wide Band). |

I guess, to piggy back on this a little more, in an explanation as NON confusing as possible...
From what I have gathered, what you have in the "new" Elite series is most, if not all, of the options that were available to you in the 3200 series of the past (unless the same option was already available in a 4200 where the only difference was glass and the magnitude of .375 H&H Mag testing, such as the standard 3-9x40mm).
Then, they slapped a new name on the scope (Elite), scratched the numbers off (3200/4200) and now, everything that you are buying from Bushnell is essentially a 3200(with better glass)/4200 of the past with a few "extras". Either way, I have no doubt that they are a high quality optic; right on par with their predecessors.
