My Kahles ZF84 6x is optimized with BDC for 800meters...
3-9 is more than adequate and the SuperSniper is well above average...

When I am shooting to 800 yards I want more X's myself.
Personally, I would not use a dot reticle. You can be more precise in both ranging and in shooting with the line versions. The Sightron S-3 has a Mil/Mil set up The Vortex FFP PST Viper MIl/Mil |

More magnification does not guarantee a better view, and while YOU may not like the mil-dot, many do...

Viper PST FFP 4-16x50 or 6-24x50; both near the top of your price range but offer what you ask for.

The SS 3-9x has around 70 MOA. WIth a 0 moa rail that will probably put you pretty close to the limit at 800 yards. I would get a 20 MOA.
A lot of people like more mag than 9 or 10x for 800 yard shooing. It works, but is not the optimal. I just have a 10x on mine, but prefer 12x-14x for 800 to 1000 yards. |

I dont think so, while I plan on using it for mostly long range shooting, I would like to be able to hunt with and 16x would be a bit strong for that. I think i might have to many hopes for this gun |

9x at 800yds is similar to 89yds without any magnification. Are you okay with what the target looks like at 100yds without any magnification? Most people over scope their rifles in the beginning. Thinking that more magnification will translate into better accuracy. The SS 3-9 will allow you to both hunt and target shoot. |

And a 24" target @ 800 yards is similar to a 3" target @ 100 yards. Hey, I'm not knocking it. I shoot iron sights @ targets that size @ 100 and do alright. But I'd prefer 12X @ 800 and 15X @ 1000. However, given the choice, I'd never give up a low end of 3 or less for the extra on the high end. I think the 4-16 PST is a good scope and can recommend it...but more on its other merits than the mag range. A 3-12 in Vortex' PST line would be great. |
