I got a Howa 1500 in .300 winmag from the wife for valentine's day Big Grin Now it needs an optic.  It is the lightweight model and I'd like to keep it that way.  It will be my all around hunting rifle for deer, hogs, elk, etc.  I want an optic that will work well in low light and out to 500+yds.  I like my buddies Zeiss conquest 3-9x and used it to take a deer at 325yds in January.  I'm leaning that direction unless I'm missing out on something else.  I'm not opposed to the z-plex as I've found one for $320, but I found a Rapid Z-600 w/hunting turrets for $470.  Decisions, decisions......

Unless your willing to spend a good bit more your not going to do better than that Zeiss.  As far as weight goes, unless it really alters the balance of the rifle to the point of you not liking it's handling characteristics I'd not worry about it.
By the way,I LUV those Howa's!

The Conquest is still one of the finest mid range scopes available.

That Z600 Conquest sounds mighty fine. Should do the trick. Big Grin

I would go with the Conquest, I would have to echo Pyro's point that the rapid-z might not help you much in low light conditions, I do know that the Z-plex is a great reticle and has preformed quite admirably for me in these conditions.

when i messed with the 3x9 conquest, i found the zplex to be very good in low light.

Conquest with the zplex would be my choice.

The Rapid Z600 is quite effective in low light.  It is a pretty heavy reticle for a BDC, but it is "floating" in the field of view.

I concur!! I have the Z800, but have shot deer in near dark conditions. The rapid-z's were designed for hunting.
