I need a low power variable for my sporterised no4 Mk 2 Lee Enfield. The rifle is pretty accurate and deserves a good scope for hunting out to 200 yds.
I can get any of these 2 scopes for about the same low price (+-$150). I have read a lot of good things about the Viper, but also that it's made in the Phillipines in the same factory as the Nikon Monarch Ucc. Is that true? In that case, the Burris should be more reliable? The hunting I do with the .303 is realy tough walk and stalk Kudu hunting in the mountains of the Eastern Cape. Currently I have an old steel Weaver K4 (4x32) on the rifle. It works and keeps its zero, but the image/clarity has deteriorated over the last 15 years. It's also pretty difficult to practise at the range as you cannot see the bullet holes even at 50 yds.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have a 2-7x32 Viper w/C3 reticle(also got a steel K-4!!). It has become my go to scope for the majority of my hunting. The FFII's are good scopes and I believe near the top in their price range along with a couple others. But the Viper is at least two classes above them. At one time they sold for twice what they're going for now. Your going to get better glass/coatings(close to my 4X Conquest),better e/w adjustments, fast focus eye piece, and a better warrenty. As far as durability goes I have my Viper on a 20"bbl 98 Mauser in 9.3x62 and it hasn't missed a beat. I hunt the mountains here in WV which are known for their ruggedness. Another member here has his Viper(longer than me)on a M70 Classic SS in .375 H&H and is VERY satisfied with it. What reticles are available if you decide on the Viper?

I love my FFII, but I would go with the Viper. Better glass for sure.

The FFII is also made in the Philippines. In fact the vast majority of mid-price scopes are made there.

Thanks for the advice. My Vortex Viper is on its long journey to South Africa. I opted for the BDC reticle.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I have been using an old Burris FF II 3x9x40 on my beloved 257 wby for many years, it has proven to be tough as nails. Fully Multi-coated, steel on steel clicks, you would be hard pressed to find more scope for the money. I've never felt the need for anything more. Good luck, and good hunting.
