Hello folks, I just signed up here but have been watching and reading for quite a while. You have a wealth of information to be sure!
My question is how you would rate the Bushnell trophy xlt 4-12x scope? Also is the doa reticle of any practical value? How large are the ranging dots? A coyote at 600 yards is not a very large target, would the dots cover him?
Thanks for any answers!

 First off,WELCOME to OT!!

I'm sure others well post to answer your questions but I will say that the previous Bushnell Trophy Series scopes had a good reputation for decent optics and durability.  I wouldn't be afraid to try one.  Also I did have a good experience with their c/s last summer.

I've got Trophy 4-12 DOA on my 25-06 and it's a decent scope...never had any problems with it.  The DOA reticle doesn't work too bad if you take the time to determine how the hashes correlate with the ballistics of whatever ammo you're using.  I've shot at coyotes out to 300 yards and didn't have any problems with the dots covering up the animal.

300S&W and M7025-06 thanks for the input. I hadnt bought the scope when I first posted my question, but considering the price of them I went ahead and bought it anyhow. I will be installing it on a .270 Ackley Imp.

I'm using one on a 7.62x40WT AR and so far it has worked well, seems to be a good scope for the money. They are made in Korea.

I just had a XLT Trophy 4-12x with the DOA delivered NIB and it has been a pleasant surprise.
Nice clean image and bright in low light. Originally planned to put it on a .22mag because the price was right and figured it to be an entry level type scope, but I like it so much it might go on my .243 to take better advantage of it's ranging features. Not so much the inverted tree rangefinder, but the graduated crosshairs (and dots). My DOA instruction book lists the dot size as 1 MOA which looks about right, So it would cover half a coyote shoulder at 600yds, more or less.
I think you'll be happy with yours.
Don't forget an update when it comes in.
