Although I had offers from Brandon and Ted to redo my Mauser stock for me (THANKS again guys) I decided to try it myself (Columbus took a chance!).
I shortened and reformed the fore end by almost 3".
Opened up the ejection port (doesn't look level in the pic but it is) and thumb slot.
Filled in an unused swivel stud hole.
Put a spar urethane finish on.
I'm waiting for a shotgun barrel band for the front swivel. If it works for me I'll put a Talley band on. If not I'll put a stud in the fore end.
I also painted the bottom metal which was chrome.
It was tedious work but fun.

I had thought hard about going with a laminate stock but that would have pushed the weight to 9lbs+. It goes 8 3/4lbs with sling and 4 rds now.

Stayed away? Went through what I had! LOL
It was fun. Started out that I noticed where rain spots were soaking in during hunting season and I just didn't like the looks of the long front end with the short bbl. Then I was looking at some old RIFLE mags a saw things on the customs I liked. One thing lead to another and.........

THANKS guys. For anyone interested after doing a tub test this finish seems to be VERY water repellant.
