I have a 300WM that is in need of a good scope. I have been looking at a monarch gold, zeiss conquest, and swarovski z3. I would like some input on whether to go with a 1in tube or spend the extra money for a 30mm. I am planing on using this gun for elk out west so I would like to know if a side focus would b needed on this scope as well. If you have any other sugestions that would do good in these situations pleas let me know. Thanks

I think either the Conquest or Z3 would make an excellent choice for your elk gun.  The Conquests (other than one model) and Z3s are all 1" tube scopes.  Side focus corrects for parallax error in high magnification scopes.  Some Conquest models have it, but all of the Z3s don't.  For shooting at elk-vital sized targets at reasonable ranges in the field, parallax adjustment can be an unnecessary hindrance, IMO.

Of your choices, I would recommend the Z3 series.  I happened to have just mounted one on my elk-getter .300.  Hard to go wrong with a Conquest, either.  I am not a big fan of Nikon scopes.

FWIW, I have something similar, a Model 700 in 300 WSM with a Conquest 3.5 -10x44 with a #4 reticle and I couldn't be happier!

As good a piece of glass that the Conquest is, that Z3 is going to beat it every single time, in my opinion.

I also think the Swaro is the nicest piece in your list, but I believe you know that already.

Also yes.

Those Z5s on the samplelist are great deals, but the BRX reticle is REALLY thin.  The BRH is a much better reticle for hunting.
