Thanks for all the replys to my ruined hunt post on the General Hunting board. Now for part two.The case that got stuck was my first attempt at case neck sizing up till then I had always full length resized with zereo problems.Accuracy was good, three shot groups with all holes touching at 100yds.Somehow I got in my feeble brain that case neck sizing would be even better for accuracy and case life. The cases I reloaded were reloaded once before. So I checked that box of reloads by chambering them without the bolt. And they all were a little bit sticky, had to remove them with a pick, where the factory or full length resized cases would come out with just my finger.Case overall length was well within tolerance.Bullets are Sierra 53gr.Match Kings.Cases were only fired in my rifle.Any idea what I may have done wrong?I'am scared of getting a another live case stuck!Opionions seem to be split about 50/50 on full length vs.case neck sizing. Thanks again everyone.

Ok, I didn't follow the preceeding thread on the gun type so I'll have to ask how you checked the function of these reloads w/o the bolt ?

When your seating the bullet is it HARD or dose the bullet go in fairly easy. I have had some once fired brass that chambered easy not chamber after the bullet was seated. the bullet would push the neck of the case back and make it just big enough not to chamber. It would swell the case right below the shoulder.
Take and mesure a neck sized case (empty) right below the shoulder and then mesure a neck sized with bullet seated and see if that might be the problem. sounds strange but happens often. When you full size you the fire forming of the chamber out of the case, when you neck size it leaves it (tight in the chamber) so the little bump back will matter when neck sizing where it won't when FL (theres a little play).

If you want to neck-size, try Lee collet dies. They work fine in my rifles.

I use a Lee Collet neck die too, then use a Redding body die to bump shoulders back. This way I can make sure all rounds chamber easily, and don't have to pull an expander ball through the necks. I chamber all rounds before loading them, to make sure they are not tight.

I buy only Lapua brass. Seriously, I haven't used a die with an expander ball in years, Roy. I've used a K & M Expander Iron instead. |

One other way to straighten bent mouth new brass is to use a loaded cartridge as tool to re-shape it round.

In my experience, I neck-size-only brass that has been fired specifically in the rifle for which I am loading. As example, I had two identical 1903-A3s, 30-06. I neck-sized brass which had been fired in one, and the rounds fed and functioned perfectly in that rifle. The same rounds would not even chamber in the second rifle.
To avoid the problem, ever since I full-length resize everything, even though it does reduce brass life.
