Hi, I have a new Savage Model 12 BVSS in .223 with a 26" 1:7 bull barrel. I haven't looked for a scope in quite some time and a lot has changed in features. I will be using this rifle for target and Varmint shooting anywhere from 100 - 600 yds.
I was looking at the Weaver 4-16x42 Buck Commander, the Redfield 4-12x40, Burris 4.5-14x42 Fullfield II and the SWFA SS in either 10x, 16x or 20x. As you can see I'm all over the place in selecting a scope. I hope to keep the price within the $300-400 range. Any suggestions as to which might be the better scope or is there one that I should consider that I didn't list? Thank you for any help.

WIth the price on these right now I'd have to choose this one - Burris 4.5-14x42 Fullfield II

Id look at something in the 6-20 power range for small targets out to that range. Burris and Bushnell both have some close outs right now.

Last 3 optics I have purchased are all Burris.....3-12 Euro Diamond, 8x56 sig select binos (both on closeout) and the Tac30 1-4....for now extremely happy with them.
Had a chance to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park with the binos the other day and glass a few elk, very impressed with them. Again, I am no bino expert, but man were images so sharp and crisp, looking at objects stacked in different distances was almost like 3D. My wife is blind as a bat and she was even amazed at how things looked with them.
Ive been told by locals that if I ever have my Burris items fail, I can drive them 20 minutes to Greeley and get them replaced, so thats a nice feeling as well.

SS probably has the better glass, but for varmints you need a variable for the pesky yotes that pop out of the draw 50 yards away when you aren't expecting it. So my vote would go to the Burris as well. I have a XTR 3-12 sitting on my 22-250 and so far have never wanted more on the top end yet, but have been glad for the 3x on the low end.
