Im looking to buy a used scope.Which is a better value a vary Xll 3-9 or a older (japan) Nikon Monarch 3-9 and please dont say throw in another 200 bucks and buy a Ziess conquest.

I don't know which is better.
The older Vari X-II did not even have the MultiCoat 4 coating that the Leupold Vari X-III had.........
Then Leupold rearranged stuff and the new VX 3 got a new coating called the Indexed Matched System. The VX 2 got promoted to MultiCoat 4. The VX 1 remained in the back of the bus with the old former Vari-X II coatings from years ago. So......the older Vari-X II would basically have the current VX 1 coatings.
The Nikon Monarch has the Ultra Clear Coat coatings and is very bright. Brighter than the MultiCoat 4 system of Leupold.
If it was me, I would get the Nikon.
