Just got a quick query...

I'm looking for a FIXED scope that:

* Has a fixed magnification in the range of 6X to 12X
* Has normal low profile scope turrets...so no tactical turrets...
* Has a NON-illuminated reticle

What is out there?

Looking for a scope for my next project. I want to make something like the original Vietnam era M40 rifle using a Howa 1500 action w/ varmint barrel (1/2 the price of a Remmy where I am) and a walnut sporter stock.

Well new there are obviously the leupold FX series, But there is also the burris FFII 6x, The weaver K &Tseries, there use to be a 4x conquest, Then you have the used market. I was looking to build up a low cost loaner truck rifle and ended up with a stevens 200 and found a older bushnell scopechief 4x in excellent condition that I bought for $26 off ebay. Turned out to be a very nice little scope. It would be really nice if redfield would come out with a nice fixed power scope for a reasonable price. I like fixed power scopes but it confounds me that they cost what they do , for example Leupold charges as much for a FX1 4x as they do for a vx ii variable. They have been making the m8-fx scopes for 50 years so it's not like thaey haven't recouped the equipment cost etc.

Sightron SII   6X42. It's not half bad either. If ya wanna burn lots-o-cash, S&B has a dandy 6X42 also.

IOR Valdada makes some Leupold makes some.  There is a big differrence between a fixed 6x and a fixed 10x or 12x so you should give some thought to how it will be used. You also need to give some consideration to what reticle since you dont plan to dial in correction for trajectory or wind you may want some type of BDC marks to use for hold over at longer distances.  Will this be a hunting scope or a target scope.

I sure wish they did as my FX2 4x glass sucks.

I once had a FFII 6x and it was pretty decent, I even used it to shoot my very first elk.

I have 2 6x36 leupold's and a 6x42 leupold. Have had a 6x42 nikon and have a 6x38 weaver. They are all very nice scopes. I like fixed power scopes and the 6's work well where I hunt in eastern MT.
