I need some help..  Which scope should I put on my 30-06 Remington? A Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 or a Burris Fullfield II 6.5-20x50. This rifle will be used primarily for deer hunting.

Seems like alot of scope for deer hunting, just currious if you've seen this one on discount?

14x will kill anytthing at any range normal hunters have any business shooting. I shoot targets for fun with my 300wm and a 16x scope at 1200 yards.

I agree on the 4.4-14 vs. the 6.5-20

I don't have personal experience with either of these two scopes, but if I were to chose a scope with 20x for hunting I'd want the 50mm objective to gather as much light as possible. Most deer present themselves during low light conditions and 18x with a 40mm objective your exit pupil is getting very small.

A good 2-10 should be more than enough. Maybe 4-14 but nothing more that. I can't believe that 6- 20 would be the perfect setup for deer hunting.Yippee

Anything beyond 10x and I end up having my pulse making visible changes in point of impact no matter how still I'm holding the rifle. That's me though. Could be I'm holding on too tight, or that I've got a really strong pulse. Big Smile

You'd be losing a lot on the bottom end with 6x or 6.5x

Lucytuma pointed you in the direction I'd go if it were me. That's a lot of scope at a very good price. Thunbs Up

Thanks for all the info guys. I might have to rethink by decision on scopes. Any recommendations for a good scope for around $300, for my 30-06 remington? For white tail deer, range up to 400/500 Yards.

The Buckmaster 4.5-14x with side focus. I have one that I've used out to 300yds.
If you want a simpler model without adjustable parallax, try the 3-9x 50mm Buckmaster. I'm biased for the Buckmasters because I prefer their turret system to most other brands in their price class. They do have a bit of tunnel vision though.

From Burris, try one of the 3-9x40, 3.5-10x50mm or 4.5-14x42mm Fullfield IIs. SWFA has good deals on those right now. You'll get a lot for your money. They have an ok finger adjustable semi-turret and decent glass.

Another option is the 3-9x40mm Vortex Viper, which is better than anything above with a superior turret and glass, but will run right up to the edge of your budget.
