From Gun Digest's Tactical Gear Online Magazine.
---------------------
The truncated version of the Florida School Board Shooting video claims to show how fast things happen. Not so fast there, Hoss.
Here is the entire incident, minus the gunman shooting himself. The incident lasts six minutes. Look at the video and see if you can count the opportunities to take the fight to the gunman. Only one person, an elderly woman, was brave enough to go back in there and confront the man. She wasted her opportunity by using a soft object to strike at the man's gun hand. Get a brick, board, bottle or baton and hit him HARD in the head! Repeatedly! She needed training and a weapon capable of creating dysfunction. When that chance was gone the gunman approached at least two members of the board face to face with his gun down. Someone should have been carrying OC or a knife. Action defeats reaction! You have six men in the room. When the shooter is on the same side of the desk as the board it was time to attack. When the woman with the purse was in the room, the shooter turned his back to the board with his hands at his waist. Pin the gun to the waist and give him the bums's rush. Use your knife to slash the gun arm until it doesn't work. Fight back! Later the shooter approached the desk with the gun down low...face to face with a board member. Again time for a blast of OC or a slash to the throat or face. Then get moving. Look for an escape route. Granted, it is easy for me to talk from here at my desk. But the idea that we should not fight back, or that things unfold too quickly for us to react is fallacy. The board president begged while the gun was pointed at him. He had time enough to duck and crawl for the door! One armed school board member could have saved them all before the nutjob started shooting. One armed security guard did save them. But is was a gun free school zone, wasn't it. A lot of good those signs did. Get a weapon and carry it, concealed, everywhere! |

They want us unarmed and defenseless against lawless gunmen. It makes news, and forwards the anti agenda. That is why most times you have to hunt for any story where a gun was used to save a life, or lives. Then there are the several thousand murders every year by means of clubs, hammers, knives, screwdrivers etc. Their agenda should be so blatantly obvious to all.

I heard that the perp was firing blanks, but can't find anything on the Internet to back that up. Watch this version. At the end they say he was firing caps. But I think I found the real proof, look at the video at 2:29 and you'll see what I mean. It appears that the pistol fires, a small amount of flash exits the barrel, the slide recoils and then after some hesitation his arm recoils way back (like .454 Casull, way back). Looks like he was trying to over compensate for the lack of recoil.I just don't see how he could miss so many shots at point blank.

Regardless of whether he was using caps or not, he got what he wanted and was asking for.

Quote) Granted, it is easy for me to talk from here at my desk. But the idea that we should not fight back, or that things unfold too quickly for us to react is fallacy. Those who have never been in a life or death situation can't know how they will respond until its over most of the time. As many of you here have probably seen for yourself in combat or law inforcement. The ones you usually expect to freeze up are the ones who jump to action first and the ones who seam to have it all together loose it.
For me, sometimes everything goes to slow motion and other times I've finished the deal before I realize that its over. I can't claim any bragging rights though. It evidently comes natural and the yrs of training support the actions. Honestly I credit God with the courage and ability I have experienced.
As for being armed in no carry zones. It does make everyone there easy pickens for killers and terrorist. And if you do get caught armed then you are going to be treated like the killer reguardless of your intentions.
While taking the machine shop/ gunsmith course last yr. a campus security guard met me at my truck as I was leaving one night. He informed me that I was in vilotation of state and federal law by have a weapon in clear view in my passenger seat. I know he new I had permission to have guns on campus due to the course I was taking so I asked him to please explain. The weapon he indicated was my matthews bow. He said unless it was listed as one of my projects in class it was illeagal on campus. That was one thing they didn't mention during orintation. The guard was a good guy and was giving me a friendly notice but, I have to admit I was a little ticked. Yes a bow is a deadly weapon without question but the suggestion that I could be seen as a threat rather than someone to be looked to for help or safety was very offensive.
But it made me realize that they didn't know me and have to err on the side of caution. Something we did often in combat and I'm sure you lawmen have to do almost everyday.
So, how do we arm and defend ourselves without being seen as the threat? And how do we be prepared in no gun zones where any armed killer can have a field day?
The answer, be viligant. Its too easy to let our daily routine keep us careless and ignorant about our surrondings. I am going to have to listen to my own advice here because I am as bad as anyone for neglecting the simplest basics.
First, don't show your hand or tell on yourself when armed.
Know what areas are no gun zones and determine the risk level
A. of being caught with a concealed.
B. If your not armed, what is available near by to give you an advantage.
C. Is there anyone else there that you can rely on if needed.
D. If it is somewhere you frequent get to know the security people there if any and over time show them you can be trusted
E. Know your escape routes. You can be the hero but it is not good to hang around for applause.
When things settle down some you can show up to fill in the details.
As for the guy in this post. I'm sure most of us would have been all too glad to have been there to stop it before it went so far.

After reading the post I just made a question came to mind.
Those people who give no thought toward guns and those who would actively disarm us.
Do they really think that someone would be there to defend them in a situation?
Do they beleive that no one can sneak a gun past a security entrance?
Do they think "It could never happen to me"?
Do they really truley think that outlawing guns will prevent outlaws from having them?
Do they really think that what security that may be there will always be competent or experienced?
Do they really THINK!!!!!?
