Hey guys im in a pickle im undecided on a monarch 4-16x42 or the 4200 in the same. Theres a $70 difference on the scopes from hell website which is where im buying it from, i live in Australia. i had a look at a elite 4200 2.5-10x42 really clear optics except i felt when i was on 10 power i had to get really close to the scope. i cannot test a monarch. So what are your opinions? cheers Btw - Great forum guys :) Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd - December/30/2010 at 11:07 |

Zac,
I have both and am pleased with them. I am of the opinion the 4200 series of scopes are among the best values in scopes today.
I believe the question that you need to answer is one of where is service most available to you. If you can't see a Monarch, is it because they are not widely available in AU? Will service be available in-country?
Not that you will ever need service but it's nice to know you don't have to ship an optics device around the world for service, if needed.
Where in AU are you? I'm in NSW several times a year, with trips to WA and Queensland on tap this spring.

Im in Victoria mate, I(grandpa) own a large property where i do most of my shooting. The owner of the gunstore only praised the nikons but also said the same about the 4200, he didnt say which was better, im pretty sure i would have to send away for service for both scopes anyway. Cheers |

G'Day,
I've never seen a Monarch where I am (Adelaide) so I can't comment on it but I own the 4200 2.5-10x40 and it is an excellent scope for the money. Only downside to it is the fussy eye relief if you're not used to it. I also own the 4-16x40SF and the 6-24x50SF and they're equally excellent scopes.
Have you had a look at the Bushnell Elite 4200 prices on the Horsley Park Gun Shop website???
Cheers!

I just had a look at the prices then and there not good at all compared to buying from the scopes from hell website, i try to keep the money in Aus but sometimes you just cant. Im leaning towards the monarch just because its $70 cheaper at this stage. Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd - December/30/2010 at 11:12 |

I own both types that you mentioned and I would have to give the 4200 the edge over the monarch, IMHO only and with my old eyes

i like the nikon monarchs, i like the 3200 and 4200 line i feel like my monarch gathers more light right before dark than my bushy 3200,but they are both fine scopes.it may be just me but i feel like im getting tunnel vision through the nikons

I own both as well, and have monarchs both old and new... I honestly think that between those 2 its flip a coin!

the 4200 would be a step up in that area, i really cant tell much difference between my 4200 and my older team primos. |

if you hunt in wet conditions at all that $70 would have been well spent. |
