If it is as good as the 3-15X, it will be great.

At $2,600, it better be awesome!

Anyone played with this yet?

I am hoping to get my hands on one soon after SHOT.

I do not think anyone has these yet.

Dammit man, with an optics physicist around, it's that much harder for me to get stuff early on in testing!

  • The scope looks promising.
  • I don't see the parallax knob. How is the parallax range 50 m to infinity?
  • However 1.1 - 8 is only a 7.27 ratio magnification. 7.27 is closer to 7 then to 8.
  • Same observation for Leupold 1.1 - 8 x 24.
  • It is a little too much to claim a 8x ratio magnification. The optical design is more difficult for a 8x zoom factor then for 7.27x

Ben D,
Our scope is really a 1.06 really almost a 1 power, and yes, it is an 8 power. We have spent a long time working on this design. I had the first 5 in my hand earlier today before they went out the door to SWFA and checked the power. Of course the only real way to truly check the power is to do the math as the optical system is developed and I am sure our engineers over in Germany took care of that.

Ilya,
I am working hard for you to get one. It seems Cris has them all sold as fast as they can be made, but let's talk at SHOT and see what we can do for you.

Ben D,
Also you don't need a p-lax konb. Our prototype had one but after testing we found it wasn't needed. Generally speaking you really don't need a p-lax knob until you get higher than 8 power.
Thanks,
Paul

Thanks, Paul.

I look forward to playing with the scope.  I liked the prototype at last SHOT and it sounds like the changes you made are up my alley as well.

I know Ilya,
Come visit me at SHOT and say HI then I will know you..LOLBig Smile

As most know from The Hide I will always try to help and accommodate. I will do my best to share what I can and to help you guys out in anyway.

Rancid,
Are you going to SHOT? If so come visit and have a chat. We will also be showing our new Hunter line of scope- a basic hunting scope and also a light tactical scope based on the 3-15 design.

Dammit!

If you play nice, I might let you look through it.  From a distance.  Maybe.  Devil

On a more serious note, I hope to put together a comparison of the top end 1-8x scopes that seem to be coming out: Premier, S&B and Leupold.  Honestly, any two would be sufficient for a thorough review, but all three would be great.  Perhaps, there will be others at SHOT.

I have one of the first 3-15s and have been exceptionally pleased (mine is the scope ILya used in his eval.)

I am registered for SHOT but am not certain I can attend.  If I can, I'll be by, for sure.

In the end, I am no one of consequence, I like playing with nice optics, ILya's  opinion is far more respected than mine.  I'm just a dumb ol' Marine.

Does it count if I respect your opinion?

Paul,

You should name the scope 1.05 - 8 x 24. It is better than 1.1 - 8 (and closer to the reality) and in this case the zoom factor is greater then 7.5 ;

I hope that next year I will have the opportunity to admire your riflescope with my own eyes.

I guess in the world of optics a 1.06 is a 1.1. I have heard of other companies "cheating" on that and I think that is where the whole true 1x vs. 1.1x and which is better comes from. I think years ago some of the purported 1.1's were really a lot closer to 1.2's and that really screwed with peoples eyes when both were open so hence the "It must be a true 1x" debate comes from. I certainly can't tell the difference between our power and 1 power.
We welcome all at our booth at SHOT. Please stop by if you can make it and get some freebies.

Rancid,
If I can make something happen I will, but truth be told I think I am pushing my luck getting Ilya one for 2 months if I can push that through. We will see. How about if your at SHOT I give you a hat and shirt? Will that help to mollify you hurt feelings...LOL

That's about the best a lowly old QC guy can do without his Boss's permission.....

Paul, I'd be more than happy to pick up the hat and shirt for RC (I wonder if we are the same size...).
