In NC a conceal carry doesn't provide that exception.

It said in the article that he "threw his bow" at the bear.  I assume this was after he had used all the arrows in his quiver first.  If not, the boy needs to rethink his strategy.

Guy in the stand is very calm, or at least it sounds that way.  In SD you can carry a pistol if you have a CC permit while bow hunting.

I know it was just a black bear and they are pretty skittish of humans but it was a big black bear and he had no escape route.  He was way to calm.  I bet he had the cam corder in one had and a .454 in the other pointed between the eyes of that bear.
