Are you limited to these two scopes? If yes, then V7 is probably a better glass.  Not sure which is more durable.

Otherwise, there is a bunch of better scopes for $200.  Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 and Sightron S2 3-9x42 are the best ones probably.

I like Nikon scopes, but I am not a big fan of the Prostaff series. I would look at trying to step up to the Buckmaster if possible.    I love Weaver Grand Slam series but they are usually about 50-60 more than the $200 cut off.

I have to agree with Koshkin, check out the Burris Full Field very good scope for the money.  I havent looked through the Sightron yet but they are also very recommended.

Yeah, the Nikon Pro Staff is a weak scope. Kinda of like Leupolds "Rifleman" Yikes!!

They both blow!!

Acenturian said it best. Step up to a Buckmaster or a Sightron, or lastly a Burris FF.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Hmmm, it's not too weak if you use it within its limitations.  My 9 year old son used a 4x rimfire Prostaff to qualify as "Expert" on the NRA light rifle course.   He did reject the BSA I tried to give him (it came on a rifle I bought) though!

Congrats to your son, Sir. Good shooting.

My "weak" comment was directed more to the virtue of the Prostaff to hold up on a muzzle loader, not a rimfire rifle. There are a lot of better choices out there, especially by Nikon.

And yes, we can both agree that BSA blows!!!

Regards......
