Does anyone have an older (pre-2004) Leupold 50mm sunshade they would like to sell? I have a 97 model Vari-X III 4.5x14-50mm AO and the new Alumina sunshades have a different thread pitch than the older ones, and Leupold no longer makes the older ones. According to them I can send it to them to have the front lock ring retrofit for the new ones at a cost of 50 bucks. I'll also mention the reason I want a sunshade...I really just need to be able to fit a Butler Creek flip up scope cover to the objective end, but the AO (from what I can tell) makes it near impossible to have the scope cover and be able to use the AO. Any advice would be appreciated.

Check SWFA main page under "Accessories-Leupold-Sunshades" They have some listed for sale for pre 2004 models.

yeah... I saw those, but all of the pre-2004 shades are 40mm. Leupold tells me that they no longer make sunshades for this model, and that it will need a $50 retrofit to accept the new ones. That's why I was hoping that somebody had an old style they would sell. Any of you guys had any success trimming the butler creek covers back? I have about 1/2" to 5/8" ring past the AO ring to possibly attach the cover.
