Okay I finally got a couple of pictures of my son's first Bear taken Saturday 11/20/2010.
After a day with driving thick laurel and scrubs he was headed back to camp along a trail when he and one of his hunting buddies saw a bear sitting in the trail about 80 yds ahead of them. They both shouldered and shot but Dustin was about a half second faster. Both hit and the bear fell over and twitched for a couple of moment while the pumped up boys closed the distance. The bear then got up and took off running and the boys broke into a dash after it! If I had been there I would have kicked some serious butt over being so stupid and undisciplined! The bear fell over again and they let it have another volley. It was still twitching so one of them put a final bullet in the ear and the 155pd Sow was done. I thanks God she didn't turn on those knuckleheads cause they ran right up on her. Anyway, Dustin got to tag her since he shot first. They don't even remember how they got her back to camp, LOL! They got her certified and the game warden weighted her in at 130 pounds field dressed. Extracted a tooth for age dating and research work.
He got a certificate and will be able to access the DNR website in the spring an get the age and research info on her. We enjoyed a nice bear steak last night and she wasn't the least bit gamy!
Good Eating!!!
