Here is my report on the range today. I shot the new Barnes VORTX 165gr Tipped TSX BT bullets. These were purchased at Cabela's, not handloaded. The weather and pertinant information is on the target itself. If you look at the target, shot one was cold bore. Shot two was made at full inhale, which is not where I shoot in my breathing pattern normally. Made my adjustments, then shots 3,4, and 5 came right out, 2" high @100 yds. The 3 3/4 stands for 3 shots, 3/4 inch, with all three touching walls from the other. The weather was cold and rainy, and my Elite 6500 stood by its Rainguard abilities very well. I shot everything off a Stoney Point Shooting Bag. MY report is this, the VORTX bullets are amazing for a factory round, everything was right on with where I was aiming, even though I made some shooter errors. The 165 gr MV is 3120 fps with only a drop of 6.1" @300, 17.9"@400. The only thing that I can truly complain about is price, but they are in the same price range as the Ballistic Silvertips from Winchester at $52 a box for .300 WinMag at Cabela's. I'm sure I could search around online for a cheaper pricetag. The Stoney Point Shooting Bag was amazing. It held the additional width of the H-S stock without any problems, and you can kick the lower legs out on the bag to reduce bench height. The bag itself's weight was plenty to help reduce the recoil of the .300, and was more than stable enough for use.

A+ for both Barnes and Stoney Point for their products.

Those are 1" squares, are they not????   Looks like less than .75 in center to center...  Good shooting.

Looks closer to a half inch group to me, or maybe just a touch more.  Good shooting regardless.

Yeah I went from the top left edge to the bottom right edge on the group, and just remeasured at 1/2" from center to center. I say it would be tighter if I was using a lead sled, but I really want to get used to shooting it on my own, figure out what I shoot doing the fundamentals first. I mentioned before I have only had a lot of tactical shooting with the M-4, no real long gun experience, and I want to develop that, then maybe get a lead sled for just zeroing scopes. So I was wrong with measurements, you always go middle to middle?

I made the shooter correction of making sure I pulled the trigger slower and at full exhale of my breathing. I don't own a chrono, and couldn't tell you what it was really shooting, but Barnes has it listed on the box the MV for each weight i.e 165gr is 3120. thats the only info I have. I'm new to shooting still, have alot to learn.

Hi LRSMike
It's a bit late but i just read your post. I didn't think you got a complete answer so here's my version.

I use cheap digital dial calipers and measure the widest point of the group (A).  I squidge the gauge smaller and smaller until I'm on the outside (blackened) of the holes , at the widest diameter.
Take that displayed number - A - and subtract the diameter of the bullet - B.
A = 1.325 (measured)
B - .224 (actual ?)
Group size = 1.101"

In your case
A= 1.96
B=.308
5 shot group size = 1.652"

Calipers can be had for as low as $6! I use them all the time. Just need to pull battery, on cheap ones, between uses!

Picky types will fire a lone bullet hole & use that measured size as B because that's the size the bullet makes in the paper type & weight of target being used. I think this is tougher, but more accurate.

Too much information

For me I shoot 5 x 5 shot groups per target. I calculate each group size, add them up and divide by 5. That's my recorded average for that 'whatever' experiment.
Good luck
'close isn't good enough'
