To those of you that are familiar with the Rapid Z reticles:
I'm leary of this reticle, not because of the lines below that represent 300, 400, 500...., but instead, the doted line that take the place of the main cross hair. If you had a 100 yard shot (not needing the drop compensating bars) and the shot was at dusk, what would those cross hairs look like? Are they dark enough? I would think the regular bold cross hairs would be better at dusk. Your thoughts?

I don't like holdover points myself, I dial in shots. if you dial in then there is no need for holdovers at all and a plex will work better anyways |

I was a little worried about how thin the cross hairs are in my Z-600 when I first got it. The Etched Reticle that Zeiss uses is so black that it shows up well in low light. If it is so dark that you can't see, you probably would not be taking a shot at that range with any scope. The Conquest gathers a lot of light compared to lessor scopes in the same power range.

Those hash marks are a range finding device look at the Zeiss website a lot of thought went into these but in really low light the best current option appears to be illuminated reticles Trijicon Accupoint scope use tritium and fiber optic. Others use battery systems.

I have the Rapid Z 600 and the main crosshair is excellent for shooting at night with a light or under moonlight as it is a very nice size for that application. You will be happy with it for shooting at dusk.

I have shot deer in conditions that were not visible with the naked eye through my Rapid-Z 800. Those scopes are very bright, and the reticles very black. At close range, you will be using the main crosshair, which is plenty thick for lowlight shooting. At least it has been for me. At the longer ranges, you will be using the thinner bdc bars, but they are still pretty visible in pretty low light. I shot a deer with my Conquest that my buddy couldn't even see through his Nikon Team Primos, and that was using the bdc marks. They were designed for hunting, and work well.

That's the reason my big gsme rifle with a Zeiss scope has the Z-Plex reticle, which is quite visible in low-light. I have a Rapid-Z varmint reticle as well but its used out on the open in broad daylight.

The Rapid Z 600 & 800 are very usable in low light. Excellent all-around reticle thickness for a hunting rifle.

The rapid z1000 seems odd, 1-4 are above reticle center. is it supposed to be zeroed at 500 yards?

According to their instructions, that is the intention.

Have two rapid z, z800 and z1000 the 600 and the 800 and 1000 have are almost too thick. The z1000 is designed for 175 gr. smk loads around 2700 fps. It is zeroed at 500 yds, or 11.6 inchs high at 100 yds, (same thing), and with my loads at 2650 works best on 23.2 power. If your lazy and reset the center at 100 yds, all you need to do is reset to 3.2 mil or 6.4 on the dial to "activate" the reticle, otherwise just dial in holding center reticle on any power.
