Can anyone suggest another scope similar to the Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6X36mm?
It seems like the perfect low / high magnification combo. It's for a dangerous game (Hog), but of course, they are discontinued by Bushnell. Love to get a good used one, but maybe you can recommend something similar. I have a 3-9x on the gun now, but I don't know if 3X is going to help if the critter decides to get "close and personal". My ol' eyes ain't what they used to be, but I don't expect to need if for anything over 150 yds. I had the Bushy 1.25-4, but needed a little more on the high side. The glass should be of similar quality, and would have to have a good Fog / Rain coating. And I don't want to spend more than $300 |

I was gonna say the exact same, the viper line competes directly with the 4200. 3 different reticles were available the last time I checked,at the closeout sale price. Exactly what you're looking for at a FRACTION of the price

I agree, it looks right up my alley boys!
Fantastic price, Good eye relief, fully coated.... I am wondering about the a couple of things. The Versa-Plex C3 looks nice, kinda like the 4A, but it looks a little thin, and I wonder if I'll be able to see it ok. Anyone use it? Also, the "Dead-Hold BDC" reticle model looks interesting. The Vortex web site doesn't say what caliber it's set for. Any one know? This will go on a .223. And lastly, is the XR coating Vortexs' "rainguard"? Diamondback 2-7x35site Diamondback 2-7x35 |

most people really seem to prefer that reticle because you can see the target alot better, i can't speak about if it would be hard to see though. only thing i'd recommend is comparing the reticle sizes, go to their webpage then click each reticle and click specs for each one, comparing the measurements.
BDC and C3 are both .2 moa, the plex at .3moa. With how good the customer service is here, I'd probably get the C3 then just exchange it for a different one if you don't like it, i'm sure that wouldn't be a problem but don't quote me on it either (sales items might be different) Edited by grimreaper21 - November/14/2010 at 11:37 |

I think you will be pleased with your choice! good luck with them hogs! I hunt them here in Ga. and it can get "interesting" sometimes! If I can ever figure out how, I will post pics of a 475 pounder that took issue with my son. |

Trijicon 1-4 - worth checking out. I have a couple Trijicon Accupoints and they dethroned my old trusty KOWA FFP Post 3-9 as my favorite hunting optic.

I was thinking Accupoint up until he threw in the $300 limit. There are some very high end 1.5-6x scopes on samplelist but way over the price range. The illuminated Accupoint Trijicon scopes really do seem to be the ticket for low light. I think the next best would be this and I have one of these that I like.

you might want to look at the millet 1x4 dms. reasonable price and 1x with a illuminated doughnut. makes for easy (fast) shooting with both eyes open. Not the finest glass but for the price it works well on my mini 14. (the trijicon is nicer; but more than 3x the cost)

I ordered the Vortex Viper 2-7X32mm with the C3 reticle today at $169.95.
It cost me $55 (including shipping) plus the trade in of my old scope.
I emailed trades dept & told them my scope was in the mail.
They relied right away, and said they'd hold a Viper for me.
That kinda customer service just keeps ya coming back!
Am hoping the quality of the glass on the Viper at least falls somewhere in the 3200 - 4200 range.
I'll keep you all posted when I get my new scope.

definately a steal! Our resident Ilya commented in one of his reviews regarding viper vs 4200 that, the 4200 is ever so slightly better in resolution than the viper, and the viper better in contrast. but I can't imagine that meaning the 4200 is $200 better (or more). In your case, $400 more since you got away paying $55.
