Well I finally Had a day at the range to test my loads for my 223 using a 68Gr Hornaday Amax instead of my goto 55gr Amax.  Groups closed up nicely around 24-24.5gr of Varget.  I'm happy with the preliminary results for the 68gr  Also tried 75 gr Amax and she definitely didn't like them at all!

I had purchased a bulk quantity of Midways Dogtown 55gr HP flat bottom bullets to try out cause the price is hard to beat!  Without any load development I selected 26gr of Varget which is my goto 55gr Amax recipe!  I am pleased to report the Dogtown's did better than expected.
The Meplat of the bullets look a bit rough but I wouldn't hesitate to take them hunting after a little load development!

It was in the upper 30s, wind 10-15 quarter trailing and I was shooting fast only pausing when the mirage got too bad, again no load development.

I like shooting cheap bullits, especially if they shoot better than my expectations. I bet if you do some load developement you could shink your groups down to 1 1/4"-3/4". Makes more good practiceBucky
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I saved all my stringing for the 68gr load development.  Embarrased I was stringing vertically on some and horizontally on others.  I wasn't concentrating like I should have been.  Range was exceptionally busy and I was COLD!
I kept teh barrel hot to warm my hands! Wink

I'm thinking I could do much better than that Lynn.  Some load development and better discipline behind the trigger.

Like I said the price was hard to beat!  Qty. 500 55gr FBHP were 52.99 on sale regularly 58.99

I thought they did well considering how fast I was shooting!

The top left group was the 1st shot when the barrel was relatively cool!

Archery?!?!  I  Robin Hooded a perfectly good Gold Tip Sunday.  Swore I'd never shoot at the same spot with more than one arrow.  Taking my last three shots at the 6" bull,I backed up to 30yds and...........

Shot this Sunday for a friend whose buying the rifle.  Rem Mohawk 600 in .308 Win. in an MPI stock.  I didn't have any ammo for it but a neighbor found  3 180gr Win's  and 5 150gr Rem's in his junk draw.
