This one was by far the most challenging of the year. The field was laid out very well, but two of the three gong lanes required a 3 shifts each in position!!
So firstly the farm was in Mokopane some 200km north of Pretoria. Kudu country. This kloof must be holding some!!! (But do not try to find them!!)
Because there they are:
Gongs 1 at 100m standing 1 at 200m sitting no rest over knees and 3 at about 300m lying very poorly time 90 secs. This youngster shot all 5.
Next up another gong lane at distances from 250 to 350m. All lying down 90 sec.
Next up 3rd gong lane. 2 shooting over tree. About 200m. Then 1 lying down at 300m and two over tree sticks at 200 and 250 . 90 secs to jump around and shoot.
Yes lady shooting.
See yellow squares for gongs.
Next up was warthog at 275 m lying prone. three bricks for a rest.
Next up blesbuck at 175 yards. Position prone, no rest, rifle not allowed to touch ground. Shoot off elbows.
Last up was impala at about 50m standing, no rest. off the cuff shooting 45 secs for 5 rounds.
Note all distances estimated. No rangefinders etc allowed.
As example, I paced the blesbuck afterwards at 175m. My guess was 170-180 m. Some guys guessed only 125 and shot all 5 shots underneath the animal etc etc. Very tricky.
I did a fair job but did not stay for all the scores to be in, so I hope to find my overall placing later this week. If I did well, I will tell, otherwise.....
But as always fun fun fun fun.....
