Gents, I am looking at a new scope, & have narrowed it down to these two.
How do they rate next to each other, IYO? I have looked at both & like both. How do you men go with the Swaro 7A & plex in low light. Do yo loose the reticle? I'm not sure if the Swaro has the rain guard coating that Zeiss has? Thanks :) |

Rancid has the Swarovski and really likes it. I asked about the reticle becsuse I tend to think that it is on the thin side compared to Kahles and Zeiss. I would prefer the German #4 type reticle for low light but I find balistic reticles mil dots and tactical knobs useful and value some of the features that allow you to strike a target at greater distance over the quality of glass that gives you a great view as the game runs away. But it is a matter of perspective as I am limited to hunting game with a musket or bow here and they have the trajectory of a rock. When I was in Texas I used Leupold on a 30-06 but I worked in a gun store that sold the Zeiss and they are legendary for being great scopes just like the Swarovski so between these two there is truely no wrong answer.

I have both 7A and #4 German reticles and IMHO while the 7A is very good I am partial to the German #4 for big game hunting in both day and low light situations. Sam |

Which ones?? what range of variable, are you comparing the z6 with the diavari, or against the diavari FL? How much do you want to spend?? Is the low end of zoom more important than the high end??

If you're worried about losing the reticle, get the illuminated version of either scope.

ATM I will KIS with the Zeiss Diavari Victory 2.5-10x42 & S,warovski Z6 1.7-10x42 , but I might as well add the Leupold VX-7 2.5-10x45, as I have had extremely good luck with Leupolds in the past. Price is not that important, as I have sold many rifles, scopes & other gear to fund a few gifts for myself. Hence the new scope ;) At this stage, I do not like the look of the new Zeiss FL scopes range, from the pictures & information I have read. Just too bulky for me, plus I would prefer a power similar to those mentioned. Low & high power: Both are as important but I am not one to sit & wait, so a sniper style shot is maybe a one in ten for me, at this stage anyway. Still, I do like the option of winding my scope to 9 power(current scope a 3-9x49 Conquest) whenever I get the chance. If I have a 10, 11, 12 or 14 power option, with a steady rest(like prone) I would certainly choose the highest power that gels. Thanks gents, please keep your thoughts coming :) |

Another question gents.
Swarovski. Which NON ILLUMINATED Swaro reticles has the BOLDER side-bars. 4, 7A or the plex? I prefer the four outer bar option, but will certainly look at both: illuminated & German style number 4. |

The 7a and 4a are the same in thickness, the 7a has the extra post at 12 O'clock. Between the two, I prefer the 4a. The plex is basically the same thickness as a Leupold fine duplex reticle. |
