Have a generous fiance and have been told will get a new scope for 18" 6.8 AR. Have spent many nights on the forums researching and through the advice of the many experienced posters have previously chosen two scopes one for a .270 remington bdl and .300 remington win mag.
The difference in choosing scopes for my older rifles was based on my budget. Ended up choosing Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 with rapid z 600 and 4.5-14x44 with rapid z 800 for those and have served me well.
This time around budget is greater. The scope will be placed on an AR in 6.8 with 18in barrel. Will be used mostly for hog hunting. Hunting is done mostly from hour before sunset to O dark thirty. Budget is not enough for any night vision scopes. Its a 200 yd rifle all day every day and rarely shoot over 150 yds at night. Has a fixed 7 x 56mm meopta meostar RD on it now. For whatever reason I see more clearly with my zeiss scopes after dark. I have narrowed it down to all scopes from SWFA or sample list:
NEW Zeiss Conquest 3.5-12 x 56mm .....$999
Swarovski 2.5-10x56 Professional Hunter Riflescope DEMO-A 1299.00 (will pay additional if worth it over the new conquest)
Swarovski 3.5-18x44 Z5 Riflescope DEMO-A 1199.00 (dont really need 18x but dont know the difference in clarity btw this and the PH)
Thanks in advance for all your help, advice, opinions and experience!!!

there is not a bad scope on that list! I think if it was me I'd take the conquest 3.5-12x56 or the swaro 2.5-10x56, and that is just because you already have the rings on the rifle to clear a 56. ...BTW, while you and your fiance' are in the gift giving spirit.... you could always toss me the meopta.... Just kidding with ya...welcome to the OT!!

Anytime someone mentions hunting in low light my first thought is always Trijicon. An accupoint would be perfect for what you are trying to do. have you checked them out yet?

I did check out the accupoints and opted for the meopta the first time around. I may check em out again this time around. and I may also trade in the meopta and opt for the:
Swarovski 1-6x24 Z6i (not sure how it will do as a low light scope.) Not sure yet. Thanks for the quick replies. Lm32188 |
