I've taken the beast to the range twice now, and not only did the 150 hurt less, haha, it also grouped tighter for me. Now I'm looking for a great 150 grain bullet that I can hunt with. I don't have the tools or the knowledge for handloading, so until then, I need something that I'll really like. Thanks guys!

Oh I forgot, its a Rem 700 Sendero with the stainless fluted barrel. If that helps. Still a .300 win mag.

Pretty heavy rifle, recoil really shouldn't be an issue even with a stout load and heavy bullet. I'm also not a fan off the 150gr. bullet in the 300 mags, too light IMO. With that said, if I were to use a 150gr bullet I'd look at one of the aerodynamic, bonded bullets as in Accubond, Scirroco or Interbond bullets. If you can get them to group the Barnes ttsx would be even better.

The m700 Sendero fully loaded is probably well over 10 pounds. |

I'd probably go with 165 or 180, but I've only gotten to shoot it sitting upright, and no real stability, and the 180's hit hard. The range that I go to doesn't allow prone shooting?!? Even though its on a military installation. I'm planning on getting a brake put on it, and harris hbrm-s bipods, so it'll help keep the beast stay still and recoil down some. Has anyone heard anything or know anything good about the winchester supreme elite xp3?

Are there issues with grouping the Barnes TSX's?

There are so many good game bullets out there for a 30 cal at many weights it is hard to go wrong if you just do your research on tough bullets that can hold up to the velocities. Just find one your gun likes to shoot well. And go with it.
Question? After how many rounds fired were you experiencing "heavy" recoil? Look into a good recoil pad that will reduce felt recoil first if you have not already. Is the sitting position at a bench? I feel recoil at a bench position more so than any other. The problem is usually the butt not being up against my shoulder right. My most used hunting position is sitting sling supported. It is hard to get slapped when shooting a tight sling position. Usually prone is not optimum for my sight picture. This of course depends upon where you hunt and what your hunting. That reminds me I need to practice this more. I have been shooting from the bench or prone too much lately.

I went through 20 of the 180 the first time, sitting on a bench. After about 6-8 rounds from sitting at the bench I really started to feel it. I couldn't get the stock situated exactly how I wanted it, due to the target location and having to resort to sandbags. I haven't looked into a recoil pad though. The thing is I would like some quick suggestions for bullets, for the fact that I don't have a deep pocket right now, because I'm about to have to move from washington to louisiana. Now after the move I should have a little dough stuffed aside for some things. I'm planning on hunting this year with the father-in-law when the season opens. The wife knows that a box of good ammo, $50-70 dollars is well worth a deer or two in the fridge, but I don't have the funds to go pick 6 or 7 of those. The only bullet I have had really good results with is the winchester supreme ballistic silvertips. Thats because that was the only ammunition I used in my old 7mm mag. But that was ten years ago. Hopefully something better is available now.

accubonds have proven themselves in my opinion of a bullet that is great on game and groups like a target bullet. If i can't get it for a gun i look for berger hunting bullets next.

Thing is, I have no idea how to reload, nor do I have the equipment, or money to buy the equipment. I really don't know where to start from there.

Let's get it going then. I figure I'm a sort of smart man, I can learn quickly. I mean after all I did go with the Sendero and a scope from SWFA!

If it is deer there is nothing wrong with Federal Power-Shok Ammunition 300 Winchester Magnum 150
Grain Speer Hot-Cor Soft Point
it will kill it.165 g nosler partitions in federals Vitashock is a good hunting round the Hornady 165 STS is a very accurate bullet in my rifle. Some revies are not great if it hits shoulder. Might be too frangable.

As for latter on reloading is not that difficult and you can get started for about 200 to 250. Can save a lot of money in the long run if you shoot often. If you will only shoot while hunting and a little before season it would take a while to gain your money back.
A good reloading manual will go step by step through it.

Single stage kits can get you started. It will have a powder measure, a single stage press
Calipers $25.00 Brass < $1.00 per so about $50.00 or just keep your brass when at the range. Bullets $25 to $40 per 50 for good premium bullets. Primers $40.00 per thousand Powder $ 23.00 per pound Reloading Book < $30.00 So you can get started for around 275 to 550 with a few misc things thrown in there shell holder etc. you would probably want a tumbler to clean brass with thats about $80.00. The brass will last quite a while 1 lbs will do about 200 + rounds In all honestly reloads will run you between$15 to $20 per 20 rounds depending on bullets chosen and that will be for premium loads that shoot better than factory loads. To take your price for good hunting amo of about 50 per box it would take you on average 10 to 15 boxs of 20 reloads to pay for the equipment. I love reloading though.
