I  HAVE  GOT  GUN  OIL  ON  MY  RIFLE SCOPE  LENS  ACCIDENTALLY  /   WHAT  CAN  I  DO  TO  CLEAN  IT  OFF  THE  LENS  WITHOUT  RUIN  THE  SCOPE/ I  NEED SOME  ADVICE  IN  A   HURRY/Shocked

+1 on the alcohol or you might try acetone. Flush it good and remember that at this point you do not want to rub the lens, just use something absorbent to wick away the cleaning fluid and contamination. Then follow the steps (or similar) in:

Use the guts from a piece of white bread to absorb the oil,then follow above advice.

DON"T rub the lens with the bread ,just lay the bread on the lens!

another method is to use a medicine dropper full of alchohol to "flush" the oil from the lens... do that 3-4 times and use a lens cloth to "sop" it up. then clean it using the recommended method, and a clean lens cloth.

Sometimes my tongue outruns my brain and I say something I haven't thought of yet!

I've worked in the chemical industry for 20 years and in my experience alcohol won't cut most oils.  Acetone however, will.  I had a Burris Tech. Rep. tell me one time that every scope that they ship has had the lenses cleaned with acetone prior to shipment.  That's what I use now on a really dirty lens.  It needs to be straight acetone I wouldn't use an acetone blend like fingernail polish remover.
