Gotta agree with 300  the close out on the 2-7 Viper is a sweet deal. "if you can get one"

The Nikon is a nice scope, but the crosshairs are too busy for me to use one as a hunting scope.

I own 2 diamondbacks and they are good scopes for hunting.

What ya mounting it on?

If you're pressed for cash and/or the Viper can't be had before season starts, give this one a good look. It's on sale and a very good scope for the money.

http://swfa.com/Burris-3-9x32-Timberline-Rifle-Scope-P11002.aspx  it's not going to be as good as the Viper in low light, but fully serviceable as a hunting rifle scope.

If God didn't want me to play with it, he'd of made my arms shorter.

Never owned a Nikon.

I would agree with the above. The only caveat might be the length as I tried a 2x7 on a short action savage and it was too short for my ring spacing and I did not want to use extension rings or a 1pc. base. So measure your ring spacing and make sure it fits . Otherwise the 2x vortex is a killer value right now and is adequate for anything you would need under 99% of hunting conditions. If you want a 3x9 I suggest you look at the link below as it is a pretty good review of the scopes available in your budget range. It doesn't include the viper as it is a more expensive scope that just happens to be on sale right now.

Good point Powederburn.

My Winchester model 100 is a tough one to fit. I have to use a long scope on that short barreled carbine due to the ring spacing. Right now there is a Diamondback on it which just barely fits.

It's why I was asking what he was going to mount the scope on.

If God didn't want me to play with it, he'd of made my arms shorter.

The Vortes line will definitely offer the best optics from the group listed above.  Here are three vortex scopes that are on sale now.

Viper. I have the 6-20x44. It would be too much for hunting. I live in a state where you can not hunt with high powered rifles so I got a scope that would work well at the range also. the 2-7 or 3-9 would be a good choice.

This much agreement on a riflescope forum????

PERISH the thought!

Not many would say the Viper was the BEST scope out there.  But there's nothing even CLOSE to it for the money.
