I found a great deal locally today on S&W ORC 223's and may have to buy one. If I go this route I would like to get the rifle setup for picking up targets quickly and getting reasonably accurate hits to a minimum of 300 yards. I like the idea of the Eotech with the bullet drop compensator on it, but wanted to see what other people on here might think of.

I'd get a good 1-4 vs a holographic or red dot especially if you want to use it out to 300.

If you plan on shooting to 300 yards and want to be precise then I would take a red dot type scope out of the picture. Think 1-4x or 2-7x.
What is your budget for this scope? |

I had an eotech 552 but I quickly found out, unless you purchase a seperate magnifier the sight is made for close quarter combat. You should be able to use an eotech with the magnifier but at a $1200 cost?????????
The above scopes are very good recommendations.Think Vortex 2-7 or SWFA SS 3-9!

Where I shoot it's steel targets, but I'm also thinking SHTF.
LOL, I haven't looked at this since I first asked the question and half of the responses have been edited. LOL, what did you guys do while I was gone?

Trijicon 1-4X is hard to beat, maybe a 2-7. maybe a 3-9.
My money would be on a nice 1-4X. It ain't a precision weapon, no need for too much complication or glass. Some here need a smoke check from time to time, all is well. Carry on. |

I agree with Rancid. You might try looking at 1-4X scopes. The Schmidt Bender Short-Dot is the king of the hill for this concept, especially since you invoked the dreaded SHTF scenario. It's perfect for zombie plinking. The Meopta K-dot is another example. They have a great field of view and make for quick target acquisition. I've seen the Millett DMS get dis-recommended by a couple of dealers lately but it is affordable. The magnification depends on what you're really going to use it for. If you're really going to shoot paper, go 3-9X or 3.5-10X. If you're going to try and hit varmints out there, you may want 14X on the top end.
Just in case the reply from stickbow46 wasn't clear - you can't use the BDC dots on that EOTech without the magnifier. To the naked eye, they look like one blurry red dot. |

If you are looking for something for your AR15 check out the Nikon M-223 line. I just got back from a big shoot in Missouri where a bunch of internet guys got to shoot the entire line of M-223 scopes, and all, yes all, were amazed at how easy they were to use. I personally have a Nikon 4-16x42 with the BDC reticle on my AR10 which I brought for guys to shoot. These guys were hitting a 4 inch plastic bottle of Tannerite at 630 yards! The BDC works especially when you use the Spot On Ballistic Match Technology Program with some range time. You will be amazed. I think it says a lot for Nikon to parade these products out for actual use by industry professionals. Shows their belief in the quality products they have for us to use.
