I just got back from my opening weekend archery backpack trip.
I did not put a buck down, but I did see some good ones. I used my Vortex Razor HD spotting scope extensively and loved every minute of it. I hardly noticed the increased weight over my Zeiss 65. The videoscoped footage turned out pretty good. I put together a video showing some of the deer and the performance of the Razor/Sony WX-1 combo. The deer in the first scenes with heavy mirage were about 2 miles away. The three bucks in the daylight were about a mile and a half. The doe was 500 yards and the big bucks were about 1000 yards away. It was a great trip, and I got within 80 yards of the big velvet typical, but didn't get a shot. Check it out: |

Those look like some long bow shots.
"Our arrows will blot out the sun"..., that seems about the only way to bow hunt them. Nice video. |

Thanks guys!
I've got a goat/elk hunt next week, but after that I think I'll have to make another go at those bucks. |

Looks like a great hunt! What area where you in? I think I am going to bow hunt the Snowies this weekend if possible. Just some deer hunting and maybe a cow elk if they come across the land.

You know where I'm hunting, Helo!
Just on the north side of No-Tellum Creek on the backside of Secret Mountain. |

Thanks Bitterroot. I could probably take a guess as to the area you are hunting, but I am not sure, and I wouldn't want to give it away. Looks like an area I have hunted once, but it was years ago, and I haven't been back since.

Good luck in the Snowies, Helo.
I've hunted there a few times myself. There are a few good ones in there, too. |
