I will be getting some Leupold quick release rings and bases. The reason I believe I want these is because of the interchangeability they might offer. I have two scopes and will be getting my zeiss conquest as a christmas present. Until then I need to mount my Nitrex for this coming deer season. I figured this would be the most convenient if I decide to switch them out.
What is everyones opinion between the two if you ahve any experience with the following?
From the pics I can see they detach a little different depending on where the quick release lever is.
Thanks

I prefer the Weaver style of mounts so I would choose the weaver style. What type of mounts are already on the rifle?

Hi Tx Hunter - I went this through last year for a combination of 4 good scopes and about 10 rifles. If you want the ability to interchange easily between scopes and rifles, imho the best way is to set up all Weaver/ Picatinny (Picatinny if possible) mounts on all rifles, and to use the Weaver style of rings. It is quite difficult (and expensive) to get 100% of the mounts compatible for multiple rifles, and the Weaver style, I found, is the easiest to find (although not always easy). Based on this, if you are looking to be able to do this on multiple rifles, I would advise the Weaver rings.
On the other hand, if it is only temporary and for a couple of rifles, you might want to see what you actually have in place now on your rifle before making a choice. If you decide to go the Weaver route, feel free to PM me about where I found the mounts I needed (I have Brownings, CZs, Rugers, Marlins and Winchesters). |

I'd respectfully ask you didn't do that, friend. It kinda defeats one of the reasons this forum exists.
Welcome to Optics Talk.
I'd go with Talley QD rings, if I were changing scopes a lot and I do too. They are a little more expensive, but they are certainly worth it, IMHO. Edited by cheaptrick - September/08/2010 at 17:23 |

Cheaptrick - you were recommending the Talley QDs below - do you like them better than Warne QDs? If so, what attributes do you like better in the Talleys?
I upgraded a couple of years ago from Leupold to Warne QDs because I found the Warnes were better at holding zero, and also seemed stiffer (maybe an impression). But I did not try the Talleys. |

I have had sevral sets of the Leupold quick release rings with the little round plug that drops in the hole and you rotate the lever to lock it in place. It took me several years to wear it out but I did have a set give up on me. Currently I only have one set left as I dont really trust them. I have some La Rue quick release and Aimpoint quick release but no others currently. I do have several sets of talley light weight rings and they are excellent. I also use Badger Ordnance rings and bases and they are excellent also. I have heard very good things about TPS and would be conficent in them. Also GG"&G makes very good products and I have one of their quick release mounts. I have several sets of WARNE rings but not the quick release as I dont really like the style where the lever does not have some sort of lock. I have also had some ARMS quick release that worked good until I broke it then replaced it with LaRue.

Nothing wrong with Warnes. I have some on a rimfire and they are fine, I just love Talley gear, I guess.
The Talley's seem tougher and I switched them around A LOT between different scopes and rifles and they still look new.

I find the machined steel Talley mounts to be "nicer" than the Warne's I have. I like the fact that the whole base of the ring sits in the cross slot of the base with the Talley's. They are very durable in my many years of use.
If going with the Leupold, I would get the Weaver style. The lever is on the base with the other style of Leupold QD. That alone has kept me away from them. It is based strictly on aesthetics.

Go with the Warnes. They are less expensive than the Leupolds and I feel the rings are designed better. My opinion. All of my bolt actions have Warne setups.

We use the QR's on hunting rifles, they are not BATTLE tough but take the abuse of 3, 300wby rifles year after year. I can swap off a 6.5-20 conquest with a 2.5 weaver in a few seconds & be walking the woods - they are light using one set of screws compared to 2 sets on most, I am weight watching however I can.
The QRW's are real tough battle worthy rings that are way too heavy for a hunting rifle, my Sage EBR & my LRB M25 both sport those rings, thinking the Warnes could go on a diet as well, a tad bit chubby.
I have a set of Warne bases on the way for my Win70 so I may be stuck using the QRW's on my rifle this season just up in the air - I havent been impressed with the lack of thought by the engineers at Leupold (see picture) I may drill the base and set it back on the bridge myself - Leupold CS been no help nor did they want to upgrade the design of the base.
I could not honestly think the QR's would fail in a hunting situation, worse case scenario you could tie the scope down & finish the day out - I just don't see how they COULD fail out hunting, that lever cant fall out.
Warne's CS is EXC I just spoke with them on the phone and like the smalltown feeling I got, compared to Leupold's bunch of idiots "send it back we will replace it" type.
Now you have insight from a poster that uses both styles.
My teenage boys Mark V's don't have this "overhang" its been bothering me for years.
Good Luck
