Well some of you remember I had a Crossfire 6-24 ($99 special) on my Savage 223. It went belly up after around 100 rounds. Scott at Vortex fixed teh scope but it has been relenquished as I don't trust the crossfire line anymore. I still have the 2.5-10 that will be going for sale shortly after i get a replacement. Now while I was sending the Vortex back and figuring out what scope to go on the Savage I remembered the Simmons Chris posted at such a great deal. I have a Simmons Whitetail classic from years ago that has held up well and thought, well might as well give it a try, its only temporary until the high power variable SS comes out anyway. I ordered it through Brady and he "hand selected" one for me, what a kind soul! Scope got here and immediately I was impressed with the glass. Clear and sharp IMO. THe illuminated reticle looked decent but it was nothing i would use. Anyway, I mounted it up in talley highs and got ready to shoot.
Appeared to be a good match, and after boresighting I was in the bull after three shots @ 50yds. Then out to 100, forth shot, hair low and left, fith shot, same hole near about, I'm pretty excited, then when I went to take a sixth, this is what I see
Thats the paralax something another that came apart. The best I can tell, thats a spring at the 3 o'clock position. Who knows. It will be going back to SWFA tomorrow
I have yet to decide on a replacement or if I am just gonna exchange it and get another one and hope it was a fluke........ I am not having good luck with scopes on this gun for some reason.

Sorry to hear that Graham. Definite bad luck there. My personal feeling is if something is on a big sale it's either about to be discontinued or it sucks. May be pretty harsh but i usually stay away from the big % off sales.

Oh yeah i completely see where you're coming from. Sucks to have back to back scopes fall apart like that.
Vortex as great as their CS is, really hasn't been getting the most gleaming reviews of late. |

It is what it is. The crossfire just isn't built for high volume shooters. |

It seems that you and I are in a very similar position. I really want the SWFA SS variable in a higher power than the 3-9 currently offered. Right now I've got a Simmons 8 Point scope I'm using trying to get myself by. I really want something better badly though. I will say, I've had decent luck with Simmons, and they have never given me any major problems really, but this one doesn't track as well as I'd like. Once sighted in though it works great. I keep telling myself that it's fine, but I just keep finding myself wondering if it will fail since it is cheap and I've heard so much bad about Simmons.
I actually almost bought a SS 3-9x40 today as a guy on another forum I'm on had a great deal on one new in the box. I decided not to as I really want a higher power one so I'm trying to wait. Also, imo, one of the better options in the $100 and under price range for a scope seems to be the Center Points from Wally World. Great features, but the glass isn't great. I've not had one for very long, but most reports I've read have said they have held up great, some are a few years old. I've only read a couple of negative reviews. The glass is the only thing about that scope I can find that I wasn't thrilled with. Another option if you are interested is I will probably be selling a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 in a few weeks if you are interested. |

A few weeks ago, I had the same problem with a LEUPOLD Mark 4 4,5-14X50 Ill. !!!
Not cheap chinese crap, but a supposedly high end US quality product!
What fun!

RULE #1 for me IF I've GOT TO go with an entry level or lower than a mid grade scope. I stay away from the bells and whistles options!!

If I'm not mistaken hasn't 1911man posted that he's had good luck with the AETEC's?

Try a Pentax Pioneer, they are fairly cheap and are just Burris Fullfield II scopes in disguise.
