Well I have a new zeiss conquest 3-9x40.  I was thinking of adding a sunshade to it, but the zeiss is pretty costly.

Are sunshades universal as long as the meet the mm objective(40,42,44,50, etc)?

Definately not, they all use different thread sizes, unless it from the same co.then you may catch a break.

When it comes to Zeiss ,if you play, you pay.It cost me over $100 for two of them,I do have to say they are very well made, but more than a Swaro or a Leica???????????

If you look inside the objective bell of your Conquest you'll see a trim ring/thread protector that has to be removed in order to attach a sunshade. The threads are recessed, which is dissimilar to most other brands. The thread pitch differs as well.

So, in short, only a Zeiss sunshade will fit, and the price really isn't that bad when you consider the quality; that and the fact that your only alternative is to fire up the lathe and turn a couple on your own ( at five times the price!!).  SWFA is the only online retailer to consistently price and STOCK these pieces. Everywhere else only seems to get them when pixies fly by and drop a few off, and then the price seems to go way up til they're out again.

PS- When you screw on your sunshade(s) re-install the trim ring in the front one to protect its internal threads and so you don't lose it.

There are some alternative means of making your own sunshade if you wanna take the cheap way out.

Ok thanks for the heads up.  I have never used a sunshade so I do not really know the true benefit of them.

take a piece of heavy black constuction paper of thin cardboard and wrap around you objective bell and secure with a rubber band or tape......  then see if you like the view through.  Don't make it long maybe 4" tops!
