I wear contacts as well, and I can't imagine it being an issue of you wearing contacts. Maybe try a new pair of contact if their old. Or have your eyes checked again. I often have to get a stronger prescription.

I had laser surgery 4 years ago, and corrected my eyes to 20-15. My surgeon and I were talking, as he’s a shooter too, and he told me glasses reflect 10% of the usable light from each side. So, wearing glasses all those years was costing me 20% of the usable light coming from my scopes. Not a good thing, especially when you spend top $$ for an Alpha-Optic and expect to get 95+% light transmission. I never asked about contacts as I didn’t (couldn’t actually) wear them. It seems that the contact is another glass/plastic surface the light has to pass through before you get the “usable” light. |

Yes, I wear contacts and have wondered the same thing at times. When I look through scopes without them and refocus them the scopes do seem sharper and crisper to me also.

thats very true, im not sure how much a fellar does lose through a contact. i suspect it cant be much beings the lenses of today are less than paper thin, but you are right im sure you lose a little bit. |

I don't know , I would expect that you might be losing some light as suggested through your glasses but that should impact both scopes evenly. I might question your expectation and definition of "much difference" as the 4200 is a pretty nice scope in it's own right and if you are comparing them in a casual look through in the middle of the day then there isn't going to be a day vs night sort of difference in my experience. Starting with the level of scopes you have the 4200 and moving to the next levels the law of diminishing return really starts to set in IMHO and the small increments in quality are probably only going to be seen in the extreme edges of performance such as getting you an extra 5-10 minutes of low light instead of 1hr. This isn't a slam against the ziess but it's like pro athletes such as golfers The difference in Tiger Woods and the guy at the bottom of the money list is probably a 1-2 stroke average.

Since you are wearing contacts when looking through both scopes, the difference in what you see isn't due to the contacts.
If you are comparing the two scopes during a high light level, and looking at the center of the field, you won't see a big difference. Try comparing them when the light levels get low; test them for veiling glare; see which one has the flattest image; see which one has the best depth of field; and the list could go on.

Be interesting to get a professional opinion on this, maybe Koshkin can shed some light on this.

Another difference in the scopes, whether or not contacts are worn or not, should be how easy the scope reticle is to find at max magnification. The eye box on the Zeiss should be much better.

I have been wearing contacts many years. At times i do have trouble focusing but i can tell a big difference in my scope brands. My Steiner is always more crisp and bright than my vx 3.

I apologize for semi-hijacking this thread. Regardless of the amount of light and/or resolution lost to glasses or contacts, if you had the eye surgery and compared the scopes again they would both appear to have a better image, but the relative difference would not change, IMO. |

That is a definite plus if you have the eye surgery. My glasses used to fog no matter what I tried; now I don't have to worry about that.
