Based upon long hours spent searching through the post here,(and reading everything I could find written by Mr. Koshkin), I took delivery today of A Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 with the Rapid-Z 600 reticle.
My initial impression is that I have spent my money wisely. It is by far the clearest scope I have ever looked through. I am awaiting delivery of a Wheeler scope mounting kit before I attempt to affix it to my .300 winmag M70 Classic, as I also read here that it seems to be easy to ruin a good scope by mounting it incorrectly. This is something that was obvious once brought to my attention but had it not been for the folks here I would have probably never even given it a thought. So thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience with folks like me. |

Best wishes to all...

Hey stickbow,
You never ask me that question... Rocky1927, Welcome to the forum. I used to have a thing against Conquests and against Zeiss, really I did, but that's just because I'm about 98% knothead. Something about the names Conquest and Victory just rubbed me the wrong way and the USA scopes I owned suited me just fine. Then I started looking at quality Zeiss (and other) optics and felt really let down by what I owned. I also found out that Conquests are actually assembled in the US and that at least one major US company no longer even prints Made in USA on their packaging because so little of their product actually is domestic. So much for the global economy. Finally I realized that it is up to our domestic companies to step up to the plate and meet the challenge of the quality optics provided by competitors. If they can't or won't make the cut, then I won't subsidize them while they rest on their laurels. Many of us now own Conquests because of the quality we get for the price we pay- you are in good company. |

No, stickbow, that's not my real name. You see, not only am I new to good optics, I'm also new to computers and the internet, having bought my first computer less than a year ago. I do have, however, a well developed, 51-year-old sense of paranoia strengthened by horror stories of identity theft, bank account hackers and other techno-terrorist types. Thus was I too chicken to use my real name (which is Jon, by the way) in any way at all online for fear of techno-bandits instantly charging down out of the cyber-hills to plunder me destitute. About the time I was pondering what nom-d'plume to use online my wife and I found a baby flying squirrel and adopted it.
The rest, of course, is history. Now I'm not quite as paranoid as I was but this persona is a habit after all these months. And, of course, when you have a flying squirrel running across your keyboard while you're trying to post a message...Well...I'm too far into it to change now. If I ever figure out how to use a photo for my avatar then I'll be in business! |
