I just bought a new Savage 10fp and i am in the process of ordering a B&C Medalist stock for it, i am trying to keep it a budget build so i am not looking to spend more than $500 on the scope. I like the the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 30mm scope, the only problem is i haven't heard much about this brand or there quality. I plan to shoot paper at around 500 yards and maybe some hunting as well. I really would like a 30mm tube with a 44 to 50mm objective. If anyone has any suggestions or comments on the Viper or any other scope in my price range it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the OT 9561.I can't say enough great things about Vortex. Some of the best scopes on the market. GREAT CS.
Do a search on OT & you will find Hundreds of positive things said about Vortex, they even have 2 members of their company here at OT answering questions and offering lots of knowledge.
I have the scope you are looking at,great glass, made like a tank & a steel at the SWFA price.Good luck, you will never be sorry with a Vortex scope.

Welcome to OT. I too have a Savage 10, but the FCPK model. And looking at that scope as well.
Many people have suggested the Super Sniper scopes also. My only concern is lack of higher magnification on the 3-9x42SS. Even though I may not use all of it, I like to have my options very open.
I've actually read great things about the Vortex scopes. Let us know, what you decide on.

Everything I've read about the Vortex Viper has been positive. So if it has the features you want, I'd not hesitate to go with it.

You can not go wrong with the Vipers or the SS. High magnification isn't the end all that will get you the best groups. |

Thing is when you take a scope and turn it up in power anything much past 16 will really exagerate reticle movement. You crosshairs will kinda dance/drift more than look solid. It does for me at least. Some of my best groups ever shot with my guns have been with a 3x9 or 10x I still have yet to duplicate my 300yd 5 shot cloverleaf target that i shot with Olive Oyle and the 10X SS and I now have a 16X on it.

I'm new to this game also. Based on what I liked about their spotting scopes, I purchased a Konus M30 8.5-32x 52mm Mil-Dot Scope.
I've not used it so I can't provide a review as yet. One feature it had that I liked was the side focus. Very easy left-hand adjustment. I don't know about the lighted reticle or the anti-cant bubble level. I've heard it's not terribly helpful, but I'll see.
I'll try to respond again after I've broken it in.
