Yesterday we had a fun shoot at our range. The drill was 3 shots off the bench, using 3 sandbags only, and 3 rounds. See who can hit the fly at 300yds.( 285m)
Conditions were sunny and warm, with a wind that switched 180 deg from right to left, then from the front, then from left to right, all within the space of trying to get 3 rounds off.
So one had to contend with aiming of 6-8 inches left or right, to dead on. Very tricky.
I dialed my scope up 14 clicks, and tried to outguess the wind, reading off the previous shot.
Lo and behold, I hit the fly!!!
OK, so I told everyone around much backslapping etc it was just luck.

So after a while I gave it another go. Can you believe it, another hit!!! So now the guys were all over me for some of my ju-ju and how am I doping etc. Man, just luck, I maintain.

So I have another go. And tell this at the campfire.... another hit.

3 targets in a row!!! I still only want to call luck, but as the guys all said..that is what you were aiming for. I was the only one during the entire drill that hit the fly by the way.

By the way, their was just a touch of mirage, but I could still see the fly at 300yds with a Leupold @25X. It was just a feint black spot, hardly recognisable, but using the other markers such as the V on the target etc I managed to pick it up.
Specially the last shooting around midday was very tricky and I more guessed then saw the fly.

Wouter, good shooting, my friend.  BTW, we need to talk about getting me some of those targets we talked about before.  I'll be home soon...

Very good shooting.  You say it is luck, but I would say there is plenty of skill behind that luck.

White Wilma swats flies at 300! Now that is a long range fly swater. Well done Wouter, well done.

Thanks for all the kind words.

14 clicks on my scope puts me dead on, not accounting for wind, bad shooting and the rest.
