I would just like to start a FRIENDLY debate on which scope is the absolute best bang for your buck, regardless of price.

Is it the $399 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest?

How about my recent purchase of a Vortex Viper 4-12X40?--$240

Bushnell 4200 3-9x40?--$299

Minox ZA3 3-9x40?---$399

Minox ZA5 2-10X40----$479

Sightron SII 3-9X42?---$199 after rebate

Feel free to put in your own recommendation. One things for sure; there are a lot of good optics out there right now!---Bboy623 Yippee

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6!

For me, the best bang's are the 4200 and Conquest's from your list. I don't have any experience with the Sightron's and the Minox's are too new to make a call.

My experience is the same as Roy's. I will add the 4200 is $100 less than Conquest. The standard Conquest reticle is easier to pick up in low light, though.

Give me the Vortex!
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

So ..it looks as if the 4200 is up against the Vortex--Bboy623

I think these are 2 worthy candidates, if we are including non-hunting scopes as well.

Cheaptrick---I still think you could use the SS 3-9x42 as a hunting scope.....and really the SS 10x42 as well if you were prairie dog or coyote hunting with long distances.

I think you have to throw this one into the mix as well.. $169.00 for a scope of this quality is hard to pass up.
We measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with a chainsaw.

tman----I'm not seeing the Monarch 3-9x40 on swfa. I'm also not seeing the Team Primos...have they been discontinued? I will agree that the team primos (monarch) is a great choice; especially for $200 (I think thats what they were). I'll have to disagree on the Burris FFII. I just think that there are better scopes out there that give you more value. I'm NOT saying the FFII is a bad scope b/c it isn't. I just think that others provide a better bang for you buck.
Big Green---here here---yes, the 2-7 Vortex Viper is a great value as well. Especially at $169

Look at this for the 3-9 Monarch http://swfa.com/Nikon-Monarch-UCC-Riflescopes-C148.aspx I have one with the standard plex reticle and it is another excellent choice. That is, if you want a BDC. That particular reticle is not low light friendly. Side by side with the 3-9 4200 I cannot see much of a difference optically.
I have haunted with the 3-9 SS. It did a great job for me. http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=24725

Conquest first but, dollar for dollar http://swfa.com/Simmons-4-14x44-Aetec-Master-Series-Rifle-Scope-P3390.aspx this is a tough deal to beat.

Its not as good as some you have on your list, but its no slouch. After rebate this only costs 100 bucks.
