Whats the difference balistically between the two.  I know the 6.8 as been more popular and all but just didn't know how they both faired.  I'm balistically challenged so I figured yall could help.Big Grin

6.5 Grendal fits the AR15 platform while the 6.5 Creedmoor fits the AR10 package.

Below are some graphs I found on AR15.com

So from the looks of things the creedmoor has more energy than the other two but longer as well.

Those graphs are for the 6.8 and the 6.5 Grendal.  Since the 6.5 Creedmoor is close to a 260 and does not fit in the AR15 package you may want to compare the ballistics of the Creedmoor to a 308 or 260 since they all fit on the same platform.

I am looking more at the 15 platform.  Good to know that the Grendal is pretty good.

Right... The Creedmoor is faster in the 120 +/- grain at around 3000 fps.

The 6.8 and the 6.5 Grendal are pretty close in performance until 300 yards or so, that is where the 6.5 out does the 6.8.  I went with the 6.8 because there is more factory ammo available as I haven't started reloading yet.  What do you want to do with the rifle?

I am think of building a AR deer rifle for the woods but haven't made up my mind quite yet.  I am kinda gonna narrow it down in two categories.  the 6.5 vs similar and then the big bore AR uppers.  then compare the cost to shoot and reload of the two finalist of the two categories and build/buy one.

Look on the 6.8 forums, there is a ton of information on there regarding the 6.8.  I didn't llok to hard at the 6.5 due to the ammo issue.  I plan on using my 6.8 this year to hunt deer in Tennessee and Arkansas.

Also, go to the AR Performance website, they build AR's in pretty much every flavor from 5.56 to 308.  That is where I bought my upper.

I'll most likely put my own together.  I reload so I just need to figure out if loading for the Grendal is as affortable as the 6.8  IF so then i think ballisitically is would be the better choice.

I figured you would but it together, but the site would also give you more information on both.  Have fun and of course pictures are required when done.

More info for you, from my saved stuff from when I was researching.  This is from the guy that owns AR performance, he shoots both and a whole bunch of others in the AR platform:

6.5 Grendel using Bill Alexanders max loads in a 16" barrel- zeroed at 200yds drops at 300yds.
due to energy being less than 1000ft lbs 300 yds is about max for taking deer or hogs with either caliber.
the same temp, pressure, line of sight and program used to figure all drops in both calibers.
This data figured using my normal altitude, BP and humidity settings for Colorado
