Are you shooting? If so, "may the gods guide you". If not, have fun anyway.

Pics on the CMP website or CMP forums (Camp Perry vendors row or Camp Perry CMP) I have gone 4 times now 1 (3hrs) Saturday, 1 (2hrs) Sunday, 1(2hrs) Monday and today for 4 hrs.
I can say that the vendors say things are slow this year but they seem to be seeing some movement forward from last year.
It seems they are not having the "sales" they have had in the past mostly keeping prices firm around dealer cost...in the past they have for each vendor i.e. Les Baer, RRA, Springfield, Bushmaster(now owns COBB), Armalite, DPMS(now also owned by Bushmaster), Hi-Standard, White Oak, Fulton, etc... usually would run some specials like Standard A2 or A4 for say $575. flat top for say $650, some tricks for say $750... This year try base price $675 RRA which I believe to be one of the best right now had some $1150 Retail rigs for $800 that are not on their Web-site right now and some that are on the WEB right now at $1k that are say retail of $1600 plus... What is really cool is that you want it they build it right their nothing out of reach... they discount right on the spot if you and a buddy pick one up and if you keep adding the prices get better...(I don't know if they want that advertised or not) Anywho Bushmaster, DPMS, Armalite, are not in anyway the same as RRA at the show what you see is what you get and the prices are firm...I have been noticing in the past few trips that the mood at Bushmaster, DPMS, and even armalite is getting pretty lousy...
Component Prices are ridiculous no sales to write to you about, Primers, Powder, Bullets(unless military pulled and resized with light marks .308 or .311 2k for $165) Brass, are all overpriced. typical are say primers 5k for $150, Bullets .224 in 77/80/82+ = $25-30 /100.
.308 168-180+ $45 /100...
Some neat give aways, shirts, hats, stickers, side sheilds, blow up balls, any kind of food you can think of RRA 4k of dogs for 1 week, Armalite, free POP, Water, Pop-Ices, Hearing Protection, tools, pens, etc...
I am thinking of sorting through some M1's in the AM and buying 2 Field Grades to get 1 shooter out of the 2 to rebarrel in .308 but do not want to do it unless I can dispose of 1 of them after I pick the better shooter, so I wonder where I could dispose of the 1 that is not the better of the 2 shooting...
Anywho I am sure if you look at the pics of the store you will love them here is 1 to wet your apetite.
links on web...
Anywho I think of Apocalypse Now nothing better than the smell of gunfire in the morning out over the great lakes with every major manufacturer at your back with 500+ shooters getting ready and 100 at the line shooting 600-1000 hitting 6-10's all day long a site for anyone to see...
By the way you mathematicians(sp) try this: wind today was 15-20mph left to right at the 100, +1-2 at the 200, -1-3 at the 300 +5 at the 500 and -3 at the 1000 so good luck and fun shooting...
Anywho I did get a kick out of the outfits always fun to see the team shirts and the team slogans, CT state shooting team was in all YELLOW and VERY VERY LOUD. Edited by 338LAPUASLAP - August/04/2010 at 18:52 |

Well caved in and bought 3 (never refinished(parked)...SA'S (2) low 2M and (1) 700K, Now I have to go shooting still wondering where I could dispose of the 2 Garands I do not want any ideas or takers... Might keep 2 1 in 06 and do one in .308win or maybe keep a part gun... You could field strip them right there (dont swap parts or the MP's escort you out, watched it happen right in front of me) to check to make sure no refinishing... Looked through 300+ till we found 7 that had not been redone ended up me taking 3 and the other Gent I was with took 2 both looking forward to seeing how they do...
You could buy an old M1D for $2500 but honestly they were sloppy and had erosion and bores were rough...
The ones we had once Gunzilla did her work were bright and had no signs or pitting or frosting they were pretty sharp and mirrored back, I am just guessing they were not properly cleaned but maybe 1 or 2 times...
Will Provide pics once fired... Picked up one new manufacturer stock set for 149 looks beautiful...
Looking at Rebarreling with .308 with the keeper and holding on to the 06 barrel...

I wouldn't worry all that much about selling off the other two. I've never been in any store in the country that sold a Garand for as low as the CMP. Most Service Grades I've seen are $850-950 and rackers maybe as low as $700. Have fun with your rebarreling project. I rebarreled one (left it in .30-06 because of my large supply of HXP) with one of the Criterion barrels CMP sells. They don't have .308 barrels, but there are other sources obviously.
I tried to get my relatives to go to Camp Perry once while visiting them in Cleveland, but nobody was as interested. I'm envious. |

Why not rebarrel one in 25-06 that would be fun. I'd love to have one some day just never have bought a garand but I have an M1a that I just love. One of my friends here has a room full of garands, every manufacturer, hes the ultimate garand collector.
