Hoping someone helpfull here has a lot of knowledge about the Contenders. I just ordered a custom barrel from Match Grade Machine. It is a 17 inch 30-30 bull barrel, supposedly having the same dimensions (other than length) as a T/C super 16 bull. What forend do i need? I dont have the barrel yet to get the dimensions from. Im wanting a regular T/C brand composite. I think its part no. 7735 but it could be 7629 also.
Thanx

Just give MGM a call and ask which forend would be best. They will know their forend spacing, and would be the best for recommendation. I would consider getting a forend that has the hangar bar design-Ask them and they can tell you where to get one like that. They do great work. |

I don't think Pachmayer makes a carbine forend/hanger bar and the spacing for that barrel is most likely a carbine spacing. There are other hanger bars available that will fit it though. Another option is a pillar bedded forend from Tony's forends. Either one work great |

Just a follow up. Ended up with the Contender Carbine forend. Havent tried out my new barrel yet but Im ver happy with MGMs customer service. They shipped it fast and its a very nicely machined barrel. It came with the Six screw rail already installed and even included a "sock" to store the barrel in.

Another update. Fired a box of 30-30 Hornady Lever Evolutions through it yesterday. Even though these are probably a bit heavier than the twist rate was meant for, It shot very, very well. The recoil was more than I thought it would be and Ill take shooting gloves next time. I shot a three straight one inch groups (breaking the barrel in at the same time.) This is better than Im able to do with my T/C .204 barrel. All in all, MGM is a top notch company to do business with. I cant find a single flaw in the matte finish or a tool mark anywhere on th e barrel. Im very pleased.

MGM is a good company.
Contenders have more buck than you would think, but they are not a heavy specialty pistol. Good shooting! |
