I do not have the luxury of looking through these scopes in person.  So those of you who have Trijicon's, what  color dot or reticle do you prefer.

Thanks,
Steve

Green all the way. The amber dot can wash out in bright light and i've experienced this personally. Green is optimally the color to beat imo.

Unless hog hunting with a green laser designator, then amber is best  - or red even; anything but green.

Hey Rancid, what steers you away from green? Personally in any sort of light i think amber is impossible to consistently see, although that may be my eyes. I'll take red as well but green just stands out better imo....

I hunt hogs with various Trijicons and sometimes use a laser designator for illumination.  The laser designator throws a green light on the target.  Green llight with green reticle leads to problems.

In many other circumstances, I like the green reticles, if hunting hogs by laser designator, green is a no-go.

Ohhhh ok, i thought you were writing the green dots off completely. The OP didn't mention hog hunting so that threw me off. But yes, i definitely agree that the green-green combo would cause major problems.

I have a 3-9x40 Accupoint on the way to me now, my first Trijicon.  I went with the green triangle reticle.  I was able to look thru one at Cabelas, and it was amazing (to my eyes) how well it showed up looking at various colored backgrounds, and how quickly my eye was drawn to it.  IMO, way better than any of the standard duplex scopes I compared it to, like VX3, Conquest, & Bushnell 4200.  Should be excellent for my deer hunting needs.

Obviously, my eyes see things differently.  The only situation where I've found amber washes out is when viewing directly against some very brightly sunlit surface, such as reflections off water, looking toward the sun, etc.  In all other situations, I've found the amber contrasts very well against any background.

Don't ask me to quote the particulars but while talking to Trijicon's tech guy the color thing came up. He was very "as a matter of fact" about green as being the best color for fast target equation etc. He insinuated that they had serious R&D issues in even being able to offer the color.

Green would be my color of choice if I weren't like others here that like to Hog hunt at night. Although it would be interesting to see if there would be enough contrast in color intensities to see your shot clearly.
Enough is to much.

Nobody mentioned hog hunting though and outside of that i fail to see how any color is more suited for multi purpose roll in all kinds of environments. There is a reason why green lasers and similar products cost twice that of red or orange colors.  Green is a tougher color to produce in laser technology but on the color spectrum it contrasts extremely well with all other colors unlike red and bright alternatives.

Amber and red can wash out when going into bright environments. Again, this may vary from person to person but just about everyone i've ever talked to to in tactical and most hunting situations prefer green.

No i meant the OP....Rancid threw me off (as i stated above) by bringing up hog hunting....which didn't  have anything to do with the first post.

BTW, i definitely agree with everything Rancid said...outside of that, green contrasts better than any other color out there. It's proven and any company will tell you that including Trijicon.

I looked at a Trijicon AccuPoint at Gander Mountain last night; it was a 3-9x40 with a green post. This was the first time I actually looked through one of these buggers. I was completely blown away by how easy that green post is to pick up against various backgrounds. Although this was my first look at a scope that uses both tritium and fiber optics, I have much experience using Trijicon tritium night sights on my pistols. On my pistols the green is much easier for my eyes to access the target under a range of backgrounds than amber or red. Also FWIW, their website says that the green tritium will last longer than red and I think amber also.

Thanks,

Didn't mean to cause such a commotion, was answering the original poster's question of what i prefer and why.  Since my trijicons are on hog guns and I sometimes shoot with a laser designator (green light), I like the green reticles but avoid them for that application.

In the end, it is what you like best.  I prefer the red, doesn't mess with my night vision as much as amber or green - or that's the way it seems.

Alaska has regulation against Batteries in scopes for hunting.  If ever in Fairbanks, over on Van Horne there is a gun shop in mall nx to where Ethel's was; he has trijicons, eotecs, bunch of good scopes.  Look them over.

I'd probably rather buying an illuminated reticle but with restrictions, have to go with Trijicons also.  Hardly any regulations with hunting here like back east, strange to see one concerning batteries.

The "amber" used in the Accupoint reticles isn't really amber, it's more yellow.  Green and yellow tritium lamps supposedly have about the same life, the longest of all colors.  In the Accupoint scopes (unlike night sights for pistols), I'm not sure how much the color is influenced by the tritium lamp itself vs. the color of the fiber optic filaments, though.
