I'm thinking of buying a short barreled lever action in 44 mag.  Any suggestions on what to get?  I'm thinking maybe the Rossi Ranch hand.  I saw this in American Rifleman magazine.  It's got a short 12 inch barrel.  How is that legal?  Anyways, here is the article.  It's about half way down the page.

I reckon it's legal because it's advertised as a pistol.

It maybe because it is only offered in pistol round chambers. Looks handy though.
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I like the looks of it, but the barrel is a bit long and its quite heavy.

That one just might work,  Earl.  1000 bucks, though.

I wonder if it is possible to shoulder this one and aim ok.

If you put a real stock on the Ranch Hand then you have a NFA firearm (10 years & 10,000$ fine) unless you get the NFA paper work.  Then most places will not allow you to hunt with it.  The Ranch hand is for all the Steve Mc Queen wantabes.

Winchester/Browning has some model 92s out.  Me, I'd get a Marlin... Now, if you could find a Ruger # 3Excellent

I thought when they repealed the assalt weapons ban it done away with all those
BS laws??????????????and a private gun owner can switch stocks back and forth, but
a dealer cant????????????????????

but +1 on getting a Marlin I think he'd be better off in the long run.
or find an old winchester.......pre sell out...........
I picked up a few rossis and they look kinda of crappy to me although I haven't looked
at the ranch hand????????most the time now when I ask for a gun and the dealer
says Rossi I say hold up, sorry no rossi please....
slow is smooth, smooth is fast. right?

That (AWB) has/had nothing to do with NFA laws. This is SBR and AOW stuff, even thought it is a lever gun.  Go do some light reading on the BAFTE web site. Remember these are the people that said a shoe string is a machine gun, so don't expect it to make sence, it is "just" the law.
