Since this is OpticsTalk and we have a wealth of knowledge here, i thought it would be cool to see how people rank their top scopes under $1000. I wanted to keep it under $1000 because im assuming most of us don't have the funds to buy all high end stuff (USO, S&B etc).

So if you had to rank your top 3 scopes for under $1000 what would they be?

This is HUNTING. I will post a similar topic in the tactical scopes thread for tactical scope rankings shortly.

We'll make this HUNTING. I'll post a similar thread in the Tactical forum for Tac Scopes.

I just bought a Kahles CL 3x10x50 MultiZero Brand New , Box, etc. 3 weeks ago.. But Lucytuma is right, they are almost gone...So my vote is Kahles CL, Zeiss Conquest 3.5x10x44 Rapid Z 600, Zeiss Conquest Rapid Z 800. I like them all equally well too. Also a Swaro Amer. 3x10x42 4A. They are all great and I really do not need anything more honestly.....Fact, there are some pretty darn nice 400 and 500.00 scopes out there. The Zeiss 3x9 would be one...

Swaro Z3 on SWFA's website is just over that $1k mark, so I will skip those.

Under $1k, I think top hunting scopes are probably Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x42 for allround use and 2.5-10x56 for low light, assuming you plan to mount these on rifles without too crazy of a kick.

For applications requiring a little more eyerelief, Sightron S3 3.5-10x56 would be recommendation for low light, and either Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 or Burris SixX 2-12x40 for allround use.

Generally speaking, here are my recommendation for under $1k in a number of different categories:

For me:

1.  Swarovski AV/Z3 3-9X36 w/ #4 reticle (o.k., it's a shade over $1K, but I got mine for less and I'm sure I can again with a little persuasion).
2.  Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X44 w/ #4 reticle
3.  Trijicon Accupoint 3-9X40 w/ amber or green BAC triangle (mine is amber but I like green really well too).

If the new SS 1-4X24 is as good as I think it is and is priced around what I think it is, it might occupy a space on my top 3 scopes under $1K.  I hope to find out really, really soon, as I'm about to go insane with anticipation.

1  Kahles CL 3x10x50 MultiZero
2 Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 Rapid-Z800
Don't need a number 3 if I have both of these. They do everything I ask.

I was going to include the Kahles CL 2-7X36, but since Scooter said we could only include new scopes and Kahles discontinued the CL line and all other 1" tubed scopes, I didn't think they could be considered.

If they could, I would rank Kahles CL even with the Swaro in the #1 position.

Under $1000 gets into a realm of scopes I don't have much experience in.  My Swaro AV 3-10x42 is really the only "hunting" scope I have that goes for much over $500.... I guess the 3.5-10 Conquest I used to have was about $700 come to think of it...

ANYWAYS... I'm a noob here, and honestly don't have the experience to say much about the $1000 level scopes.  So I won't, other than that my AV kicks butt so far.

But I will say this.  If mounting considerations don't kill it, the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 is the best under $500 scope I've seen or used.  DAMN those things rock!!  It would have to make my list of 3; it's got it all, from stellar optics, great mechanicals, and generous and forgiving eye relief.

Swaros have been wonderful for me so I'd have to rank them at the top.

I think for these types of threads to be relavent, they need to be broken down into intended use categories:

Long range hunting
Low light hunting
Brush hunting
Mountain hunting
Etc.....

Trijicon
Bushnell (4200/6500)
Zeiss Conquest series

Hunting wise I can do pretty much anything I need to do with a Trijicon 3-9x40 Accupoint crosshair/dot for most hunting situations and a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 for long range DOA

On the SS 1-4, I just heard from SWFA.  They will have a version with turret caps, but this will come out after the regular version comes out.  I am sure it will be worth the wait.
