Can you be more specific?

Can you fire a 6mm rem round from a platform chambered for .243, or fire a .243 from a platform chambered for 6mm rem.

Never tried it,wouldn't,and don't suggest it! 6mm cartridge wouldn't fit in a .243 chamber. A .243 cartridge would probably fit in a 6mm chamber but the case would more than likely come apart. Edited by 300S&W - June/23/2010 at 17:23 |

Not without rebarreling or rechambering .243 to 6mm Rem. They have the same case rim diameter, so the same action bolt face dia will work with both, but rechambering is required to convert from one to the other. In some rifles, the magazine originally designed for .243 isn't long enough for 6mm.

243 take short actions (a 308 case) , 6mm ( a 7 mm mauser case) does best in longer as it allows the bullets to be seated out further, however you can go with a longer action for a 243 to seat the bullets out further if your looking for heavier wts in the 100 gr+ class. So yes, but no the cartridges are not interchangeable.

You bet!
Both rounds can be loaded somewhat longer than 2.8 inches with 105 & 107 grainers and that is short enough to work thru most s/a bolt guns. Depending on chamber configuration (don't jam the bullet into the lands) a 2.8 inch 6 mil Rem is as fast as a 3.0 inch 6 mil Rem.
By platform -- I guess this to mean the rifle action (receiver, bolt, magazine, follower).
The cartridges are not interchangable.
