I'm looking for a rifle to shoot ground hoggs, I just want
to give my 25-06 a break I think it's tired and old........
I was looking at rimfires 22mag or maybe ever a .17 or
.22 lr, I was even kicking around the idea of trying to find
a T/C contender pistol in a .22 Hornet..with a nice piece of glass.

I was leaning towards the ruger 77-22 mag, there pricey, but
I know the Quaility is there as well as Marlin and Savage...

Thinking I'll use it out to 125 to 175 yds, of course if i went with
the .22lr 125yds  will be pushing it...

if I see one at 150+ I'd still drag out old faithfull....
What do you guys think?

slow is smooth, smooth is fast. right?

The .17 HMR will run out to 175 accurately. I'd not buy the Ruger 77 but that's just me. I haven't had good luck finding one that was accurate as a Remmy, Marlin or Savage. Not Ruger bashing as I own several Rugers but have sold the only 2 77's I had.

The Marlin with the heavy barrel would be my choice. I have one in .22 mag and it groups really well. I'll be getting another in .17 HMR as I can use the same clips. "which you can get from Bud's Guns online for $10 each"

If God didn't want me to play with it, he'd of made my arms shorter.

Well Thanks......I went out today and wound up with a savage

93R17-BV with accue trigger......raining when I got home, 60%

Tommaro should fire it mon eve, it has a bushnell 3x9 on it,

....The rifle looks unfired.......we'll see,  it has the laminated
thum hole stock on it.....looks good......
Also Wound up getting a marlin 444 ss also with a nice
leupold poised on top...this also looks new and unfired....
but it does have a scratch on the lever...
got out with both for around 900......I think I did OK....
They had a T/C with the panther engraving, with a .223 bull barrel
it had a Bushnell 2x on it but at $1,000  I let it ride......

Sounds like you did all the good. Thunbs Up

Look forward to hearing what you think of both. I want a .45/70 pretty bad, but just can't have everything I want right now. Really Sad

If God didn't want me to play with it, he'd of made my arms shorter.

.
Thumbhole stocks are the deal. I have one on most of my rifles. And the 444 is an awesome round. I really enjoy mine. A word of caution if you haven't fired one before, It will ring your bell and leave you a bloody reminder if you don't put some shoulder behind it. And pay attention to eye relief. I put a recoil boot on mine and no longer worry about gettin tagged. Also if you want to get its true potential for accuracy and range you will need to look at reloading. The factory ammo I have found is not so good. I was only getting a 5in. group at 150yds, until I started reloading for it. And I don't load hot either. With 140 gr. HP speer I can easily and consistantly shoot a 5in. group out to 300yds.
Why? Because the rifle is capable of it and I want to know its limitations.
Enjoy those new sticks.

Welcome to the OT.
Take care of Soldiers, Show em how its done and do it with em, Run to the Fight & and hold your ground! I die my men go home! If you're a NCO and this ain't you. GET OUT! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Thanks Guys I did get to shoot it some today, and Man let me tell

you, I'm very pleased. I shot 3 kinds of ammo Winchester 17g V-max
poly tipped, Hornady 20g XTP, and Federal 17g V shock V-max polymer tip.
While they all shot well right around 1". And I had to shoot between showers.
but I think it liked the Winchesters best, I shot a 5 shot group of .440 with
a 1 shot flyer making it .800 at 100 yds and not off a real good rest..
I love the trigger I think it's around 3 1/2 to 4 lbs I couldn't find my weights..
I don't like the safety, I guess I'll get used to it....
One thing about it though, seems the 1st shot of the group is the flyer then
the other shots move right 1/2" then holds there ???? maybe me though.
I only shot 3 five shot groups after I got it zeroed in....I got it shooting
dead nuts @ 100yds I hope that will hold up.....

I guess I was the first to fire it, it wasn't even on paper at 35 yds.....
Gonna see if I can whack some groundhoggs this coming week....

I wont know about the 444 untill a mo or so,I just put some down on it.

And Thanks for the welcome Sgt.D
