I just found the new 6x42 listed on the website are these in stock Bounce or what can you tell us.Jump and Spin  I was really glad to see the prototype when I was in Texas a couple months ago.

6x42 will give us a 7mm exit eye pupil so it will be brighter in low light than the 10 x models which have a 4.2mm exit eye pupil,  and still have reliable tactical knobs in 1/4 moa clicls with lots of adjustment range.  A fixed 6x will be low enough power to get on target fairly close where anything stronger is tough to use under 100 yds and at the same time it should be useable well past 600 yds.

I need one of these Coffee

Im sure the field of view will be wider than is currently listed: 13 ft at 100 yds as the 10x version is 13 ft at 100 yds.  My other 6x42 has a 17.3 ft at 100 yd field of view.  At 50 yds a scope that is 17.3 at 100 would be half or 8.65 ft wide field of view. It would also be 4.325 at 25 yds where a 10x version would only be 6.5 ft wide at 50 yds or 3.25 ft wide at 25.  While this doesnt sound like a lot at 50 yds having the 8.65 ft wide field of view compared to one only 6.5 for me makes a huge difference in being able to get the scope pointed at a moving target.  Ive had 3-9 variables and had deer  pop up at 50 yds and not been able to get on them at 9x where a quick adjustment down to 6x allowed me to get on the deer and shoot it.  Even more important to both tactical users and hunters is the difference in how bright the 6x will be compared to its 10x brother when used in low light.  I think this will prove to be ideal for both a combat optic for the M16 platform and a hunting optic for coyotes and other critters in low light.  The 6x has plenty of power for a .223 /  5.56mm cartridge as when the bullet is getting to the distance that it runs out of power the scope is  also stretched to its limits - say about 600 yds give or take a couple hundred depending on the shooter. For law enforcement who tend to make 80 yd or closer shots it should work well although the variable would probably meet their needs better.   One should also bear in mind that custom engraved knobs in several styles are available for this scope from Kenton Industries and a speed dial style will be very fast to adjust for trajectory compensation.  http://www.kentonindustries.com/

When I first heard of the introduction of the 6x42 S.S., I put together a table of currently available 6x scopes and extrapolated the specs for the new S.S. based on the 10x model.

All right the 6x is out. Any ideas on when the new variable will be ready for sale.
You guys that have the good fortune of being able to visit the store and talk to Chris or the others behind the counters getting any feedback on that one.
With my older eyes a 6x might work in a hunting situation where my shot would be under 100yds, but for any paper shooting even 9x is just a little under what I need for clear shooting @100.

Rough guess based on what Trijicon told me is that it takes two years minimum from time of concept to out the door product.  I suspect it will be a while yet but Ive been surprised before.  Better to have a rock solid product than to rush it.

Noting the price of the 6x42, I assume it's made in the same shop as the standard SS models.
The 3-9 I have used weighs 19 oz. I wonder where the added weight comes from? They are both 30mm tubes with the 6X having a 42mm vs the 40 on the 3-9. It is also 3/4" longer. The 6x has no zoom tube, though.
For under $300 I look forward to seeing how it stacks up for hunting against a popular scope like the Leupold 6x42. The 3-9 SS certainly performs excellently in that regard vs similar configurations from Leo, Bushnell and Nikon. I hope the SS 6X does too.

The 6x version is a mirror image of the original 10x version rear focus model it is an entirely different beast than the 10x HD or the Variable which are related only in name they share no common parts with the old series like the 6x does.  Really they should have made the 6x years ago along with the 10, 16, & 20  which are its brothers.  Only after the popular 6x42 IOR disappeared did it seem to be practical to add a tactical 6x to the line.  The thing is that this scope makes a lot of sense and if someone in Army purchasing spots this and realizes what a value it represents for use on the M16A4 it could be fielded in large numbers as a second optic in a quick release mount so that a soldier could go from the CCO  ( Comp M4) to a 6x or a 3-9x42 Super Sniper and be able to significantly increase accuracy at long range past 300 meters.  The 5.56mm round is not the ideal round for Afghanistan but adding a 6x on top of the M4 or M16A4 flat top guns will significantly increase the useable range and hit probability at a very reasonable cost per unit.  Considering you can field two of the fixed 6x scopes for the price of one 3-9 and field two of the 3-9 Super Snipers for the price of one Leupold Mark 4 you would think someone would make the right choice and save lives.  I think a ratio of 1 in 3 soldiers  or   2 in a 6 man squad should have a magnified optic at the least a 4x ACOG but that is not a lot of magnification when you are talking the mountains of Afghanistan and the extreme distances involved.

It will be interesting to see how the 6x42 S.S. fares, Wes.

I will certainly be getting one. This scope is right up my alley.

That having been said, I'd be surprised if it ends up being used by the military aside from being privately purchased by soldiers in the same manner as the current S.S.

Military procurement is not known for always being rational or cost-conscious.   On top of that, there is a definite trend toward "do-it-all" sights, like the 1-4x and 1-6x scopes for the M4.  I think the upcoming 1-4x24 S.S. has a much greater chance of being adopted by the military.

I think the 6x42 S.S. would make an excellent choice for M14, though.
