Pros and cons of this scope? Optic quality? Just bought a new to me rifle(308) and looking for a reasonably priced small light scope. Had enuff of the mega scopes for hunting.

I just got one 2wks ago to replace my VXIII 1.75-6x32.  I"ve mounted it but have not had a chance to sight it in yet.  It eliminated the two characteristics of the VXIII I could not deal with.  Short eye relief at high X power and image distortion at the outer edges at low X power.  So far I haven't found anything I don't like about it.  It was recommended by one of the members here who does optics evaluations for OT.

i cant say enough good things about that scope, i cant wait to take it hunting this fall. on the range it has performed flawlessly, all the while sitting on top of a .375H&H. the 32mm objective is plenty even later in the afternoon its fine. the eye relief is very good the elevation and windage knobs are cool too. i highly recommend vortex scopes.

Another happy owner here.  Well, former owner.  My buddy talked me out of it, but I did manage to hold on to the rifle it was mounted on.

Bright, clear, perfect tracking, held zero - all the good stuff.  I loved the size, & I loved the magnification lever thingee.  Then there's the whole thing about it being an outstanding value...

Had I not become a fixed-power convert, I'd gladly have this model on all my rifles.

Just the plain ol' plex.  I never got to try it past 200 yards, and that was just at the range.  The critters that got whacked were from 15' to about 80 yards.

I really like the return to zero set up on the w/e adjustments on the Vortex scopes.  Almost like a target turret.

I also like fixed X scopes. In fact I recently picked up a 4X Conquest before they were all gone.  I made a suggestion here about Vortex bringing out a line fixed X scopes but don't look for it to happen. A 2.5x,4x,and 6x would be NICE.

I don't know E.  Vortex listens pretty hard to customers.  They could easily make a fixed scope in the dimondback or viper lineup and i think it would do great

Had a PM with ILya who said Vortex didn't think there was a market for them.  More fixed out there than I thought.

 I do hope so!

I can't understand why Zeiss dropped the Conquest 4X.  To me it's got everything you'd want.

That's my favorite.  I picked up 2 of the last 6 that SWFA had in stock.  I thought awfully hard about getting the rest of them, too!

FWIW, I did buy a 4x Crossfire, & it's a decent scope.  I've compared it to my Nikon ProStaff 4x28 Rimfire, & they seem roughly equivalent in the look-through test.  The Nikon seems more "yellow", and the Vortex a tad more "blue".  The Crossfire is also a touch longer & heavier than the ProStaff.  I haven't thoroughly wrung-out the Crossfire on the range yet, but it seems like a good value for the $.  If rimfire shooters were to bump up to this scope from the bubble-wrapped crap, they'd be amazed at the improvement.

Maybe some experts could weigh in here, but it seems to me that a better objective lens size for this class of scopes is 36mm since it'd give a shooter better low light performance at 6x and it would match the rear bell size better and, I think, nothing would be lost as far as mounting it lower.  Thoughts?

That said, I've been impressed w/ the Vortex Vipers and plan to pick up a 3-9 soon.

I'd also be quite interested in a good fixed 6x!

I too would prefer 36mm on this class of scope.  It still allows for low mounting.  I have a now-discontinued Kahles CL 2-7X36, and it is and will forever be one of my favorite scopes.  To me, it represents a great compromise of size, weight, power, and light transmission for deer hunting.

Don't know.  Maybe to keep the weight down.  At 13oz it's already heavier, although not by much, than the two other 2-7 brands.  It still gives an exit pupil of 5mm at 6.4X.
